(yes I've been listening to some Lovecraft audiobooks lately)

They make a variety of noises too. We have a female fox comes regularly for food and when her pups are big enough she brings them with her. The noises she makes when she's telling them what to do are dead peculiar.

And I buy bones from the butcher for her :)

When we first moved to Gloucestershire from London I nearly phoned the police, thought a young girl was being murdered. Turned out to be foxes.

Noisy little buggers, aren't they. And, as you say, decidedly otherworldly.
