I have absolutely no recollection of ever hearing the phrase "modal verb" before today. You haven't lived! Of course, here on the South Derbyshire Riviera, we know all about modal verbs. We do admittedly fret a bit over whether we're talking about deontic, epistemic or dynamic modality.
