So sad to read this:
Cambridge professor reduced to tears by noisy hospital before death | via @TelegraphSci http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2016 ... before-de/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; …
This is my kind of horror - my room 101. And it's the kind of thing that - if sorted - would really make a qualitative difference to care and health and wellbeing.
I think that was my main complaint when I was in with my heart problems. You'd think an ICU would be quiet, but it wasn't. The nurses used to chat in loud voices right through the night. Crockery would be crashing in the kitchen just down the corridor and other patients needed docs etc. In desperation I used wax earplugs as well as having a sleeping tablet. Oh an eye protectors...

Couldn't sleep because of the pain after my op [I'd refused Diomorphine because it makes me itch and twitch] and didn't have access to my ear plugs. When I got home I slept for more or less 48 hours straight. Doc was horrified because I needed to be moving around, but I felt so much better for it. I was desperate.

I saw Stephen Crabb talk this week - and what he thinks about Iain Duncan Smith’s legacy is terrifying

I'd like to pay tribute to my predecessor, Iain Duncan Smith – someone who I think will go down as one of the great social reformers of our time. Iain has helped changed the way we in government look at poverty. He turned the lens on the root causes of poverty rather than just the symptoms.
Yeah, nobody had ever thought of root causes before Iain.

Even if IDS is right and everything's down to family break up and addiction, his record at addressing causes isn't very good.

Of FFS, they've just described Cliff Richard as the saviour of British rock'n'roll.

The bastards have even got to BBC4.

What is the Disability Integration Act?

The Disability Integration Act (DIA) is civil rights legislation, introduced by Senator Schumer to address the fundamental issue that people who need Long Term Services and Supports (LTSS) are forced into institutions and losing their basic civil rights. The legislation (S.2427) builds on the 25 years of work that ADAPT has done to end the institutional bias and provide seniors and people with disabilities home and community-based services (HCBS) as an alternative to institutionalization. It is the next step in our national advocacy after securing the Community First Choice (CFC) option.

Sanders Becomes Co-Sponsor of Disability Integration Act

Both Clinton and Sanders responded by addressing all of the questions in the #PwDsVote 2016 Campaign Questionnaire, and Kasich filled out parts of the questionnaire. All three have spoken about these issues while on the trail on multiple occasions. Despite numerous requests in person and by phone and email, the campaigns of Sen. Ted Cruz and Republican frontrunner Donald Trump have not yet filled out the questionnaire.

Sanders: End Subminimum Wage for People with Disabilities

Currently, there are exceptions to paying the minimum wage to individuals receiving tips as part of their wages as well as to individuals with disabilities working in segregated employment such as sheltered workshops, where people make much less than minimum wage for doing jobs beneath their skill levels.

DWP stays silent as use of food banks hits record level
According to research by the Trussell Trust and Hull University, reliance on food banks was highest in areas with large numbers of people in manual skilled work, or residents with health problems or disabilities that prevent them from working.

We are on one trajectory, despite the feigned horror concerning deliberate removal of fundamental human rights with PIP,a function of too explicit outlining of already agreed policy to do so;the direction and method remains with the pretence and misanthropy of contrived demonising "drivers of poverty"!when you are in the front seat.US seems to be moving the other way.
