It looks as if Bracknell Forest council is looking to outsource all its services...Perhaps our chief executive needs a rethink.

Edited to add...He's VERY well paid.

If not, it is absolute proof that he has been utterly useless for at least 37 years.

Alison Hernandez isn't going to be involved in the expenses investigation, apparently.

She has informed the Plymouth Herald ( http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) that she has not been approached by any authorities or agencies on the matter, and has arranged to have no contact with officers involved in the investigation.

As well as being Devon and Cornwall's PCC, she was the election agent for Torbay's Tory MP Kevin Foster in 2015. He's under investigation.

In response, in a statement sent out by Britain Stronger in Europe, David Miliband, the former Labour foreign secretary, said this claim was bizarre.

The claim by Boris Johnson today that the EU is fuelling the far right is especially bizarre since he has caved into the call of the far right to break up the EU. There is nothing hopeful about making common cause with Mrs Le Pen.
Boris has claimed that the EU is responsible for creating far right nut jobs ( presumably like himself? ) who want to leave it.

He really is on fine form today.

Britain's care time bomb is "one of the biggest commercial opportunities" for private firms, Jeremy Hunt has said.

The top Tory made the eyebrow-raising claim today as he was grilled by MPs on the influential Health Select Committee.

This is the story of some squalid little men (and women), but it is a vital insight into the nexus of the political and corporate media elite. The Guardian, New Statesman and Huffington Post today all run major stories around a “focus group” study in Nuneaton which revealed that voters think Corbyn is “scruffy” and “old-fashioned”. This is deemed front page news.

The publicity was obviously supposed to coincide with Labour losing Nuneaton council, its most marginal council surrounded by Tory territory, in the council elections on Thursday. However Labour held Nuneaton. That did not stop the New Statesman article, by “research” authors James Morris and Ian Warren, from going ahead with the immortal phrase “While today’s Labour party has no hope of representing Nuneaton”. Err, it is still in control of the Council.

Intersting article

http://www.theguardian.com/politics/201 ... l-election" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and some of the comments:

we know who they are and what they are doing - why will they not be happy at being pulled up for it?

'MPs were expecting a stormy PLP session. Corbyn’s acknowledgement that there is more work to do may allay some criticism but others may not be happy at the idea that they are providing a “running commentary” to the media.'

and this one

'In his speech to MPs, Corbyn will hail Labour’s successes in gaining a higher share of the vote than the Conservatives in the seats that were contested'

I thought the idea of PNS was that it was not just on seats contested but actually corrected for what it would be if the trend went countrywide? I think any party that won loads more seats that another one would be ahead on vote share? I am not convinced PNS isight as I said yesterday but I am shocked that someone who is a paid political journalist go this wrong - or was she being snide?

Whose homes are they anyway?

While publicity on the Housing and Planning Bill has been rightly focussed on the forced sale of council homes and Right to Buy, there has been little mention of a late Government amendment, made to the Bill in the Lords last month.

But it may prove to be a very big deal.

It potentially puts hundreds of social homes at risk of being lost to the sector, and could result in tenants losing the protection of regulated rents and landlord services.

So when will he do the decent thing and join the Tories?
Probably never. He can do a much better job of furthering the Progress, Republican and Cameron cause(s) by remaining "Labour's king in waiting over the water" just waiting for the summons to save Labour from itself and complete the transformation of the party into a clone of the Democrats.

Yes, I am that cynical about Miliband D. Ever since he appeared on a Radio4 "Great Lives" programme about the recently deceased Joe Slovo and not only casually called Mandela and the ANC "terrorists" but defended that claim. Which would, under the legislation he supported, have seen anti-apartheid South Africans in exile in the UK deported and returned to the tender mercies of the apartheid regime. Including presumably his Labour colleague Peter Hain MP who when he left South Africa was himself the subject of a typical Daily Express/Mail led monstering campaign.

The other guest on that Great Lives was Gillian Slovo. Who handled Milliband pretty much as you'd expect from someone who'd lost their mother to South African state-sponsored terrorist murder and just heard her father, who risked the same fate daily, called a "terrorist" by a smooth operator with less than clean hands in the rendition and torture stakes himself. Which is to say with considerable amazement and disdain.

I can't remember the date of the programme, but I do have a recording of it somewhere.
I'm getting tired of calming down....

On the Bracknell Labour Page, we have been having a bit of a discussion about Hunts statement on business opportunities in the care sector.

One of the members wrote this:

My mother in law has carers 5 times a day. She has dementia and a rare form of MND. Her care costs £1600 per month. If she goes into a care home it will cost £4000 per month. When her house and savings are spent we have been told that some care homes can ask immediate family to foot the bill. Her care company cannot retain its staff as the contracts being offered are zero hours, minimum wage and no payment offered for travelling to and from clients.
The local council cannot afford to pay the care company the rates they are asking - £32 per hour because of the budget cuts imposed on them by Osborne. This is a dire situation. I really hate this uncaring government .

I'm glad Corbyn has told the PLP that members expect them to take on the Tories not each other and to stop parading in the media and providing a running commentary.

Going to be interesting to see if those responsible take it on board and adjust their behaviour or not.

I think I told you how surprised I was at a CLP meeting a few months back when a member stood up and asked the secretary to send a letter to the PLP asking them to stop all the public bickering and start focussing on the Tories. She got pretty unanimous support.
