The shooting in Orlando. Just read a Tweet that says Florida's governor is pro guns and has passed a lot of pro-gun legislation. My daughter lives there, and I think they are allowed to carry guns pretty much everywhere.

One of the arguments by gun enthusiasts is that if people were allowed to take their weapons wherever they go, they would be able to shoot a gunman down if trouble started, and so avoid multiple deaths...

That didn't work so well did it.

People believe council housing is subsided based not upon whether or not it is but because council housing is subsidised.

Just gone round our rural 'block' with the dogs. I had to stop and sort out my footwear as me socks slid down inside me wellies. I asked Mr Riots to stop while I dealt with the problem. As we moved off again I heard a mutter behind me of 'The joy of sox'. Followed by a snigger.

Trump's tweet after the Orlando disaster is beyond disgraceful. Still can't believe he could become POTUS. I hope decent Americans will make sure he doesn't.

It really is giving people the opportunity to show themselves in the most hypocritical, perverse and nasty light ...

But the reverse is also true. Seeing lots of tweets of compassion and solidarity.

Rather sad but also wonderful I've seen a tweet from a Muslim woman saying that gay men aren't allowed to give blood in Florida so she urges fellow Muslims to get out there and give blood to show their support.

I would like to thank the people of Hanley and surrounding areas that stood in the pissing rain providing jelly babies and encouragement, also the guy that got cramp providing a good excuse to accompany him to the end and not have to exert too much energy and walk half of it,although my running pace is not much faster,to be honest.Sadists made you go up "Heartbreak Hilll" very near the end,I nearly asked for oxygen.

Council reform plans to be rewritten, Mark Drakeford says
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-36498755" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
A planned shake-up of Welsh councils is to be redrawn by the autumn, the new local government secretary has said.
Mark Drakeford said the plan to cut the 22 councils to eight or nine had gone.
In his first interview since taking up the post, he told the BBC's Sunday Politics Wales he was looking for a "wider sort of conversation".
Bob Wellington, leader of the Welsh Local Government Association, said it was time to "move on" from mergers and look at other efficiency solutions.
The merger plan faced criticism from opposition parties in the assembly, and from Labour council leaders who felt they could save money by working more closely.
Leighton Andrews, the former public services minister promoting the shake-up, lost his seat at the election in May.
He had told an assembly committee in February "people need to grow up" and reach agreement on the matter....
We could have done with this backtracking before the Assembly election tbh. It was never going to happen without a lot of opposition and fallout. But I welcome a rethink.

Have we seen this?

Yes, it's AA Gill but it's wonderful.

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/aa-gi ... cc537ef512
And if you think that’s an exaggeration of the Brexit position, then just listen to the language they use: “We are a nation of inventors and entrepreneurs, we want to put the great back in Britain, the great engineers, the great manufacturers.” This is all the expression of a sentimental nostalgia. In the Brexiteer’s mind’s eye is the old Pathé newsreel of Donald Campbell, of John Logie Baird with his television, Barnes Wallis and his bouncing bomb, and Robert Baden-Powell inventing boy scouts in his shed.

All we need, their argument goes, is to be free of the humourless Germans and spoilsport French and all their collective liberalism and reality. There is a concomitant hope that if we manage to back out of Europe, then we’ll get back to the bowler-hatted 1950s and the Commonwealth will hold pageants, fireworks displays and beg to be back in the Queen Empress’s good books again. Then New Zealand will sacrifice a thousand lambs, Ghana will ask if it can go back to being called the Gold Coast and Britain will resume hand-making Land Rovers and top hats and Sheffield plate teapots.
:D

I know. Yes. Exactly. Thank you, thank you. I'm sorry it wasn't clearer. For one horrifying moment I thought I'd become lost in belief systems but having re-read your post and HindleA's response, we're all in agreement. Council housing isn't subsidised. You wouldn't know it reading and listening to some people.

Workers under 30 pay almost half of monthly wages in rent, while those in London pay even more, says Countrywide

The average cost of a new tenancy on a one-bedroom home hit £746 a month in May, taking up 48% of the take-home pay of a worker aged under 30, data from property firm Countrywide showed.
