Ukip's only MP could be sacked by Monday, says party leader Nigel Farage
When asked if Douglass Carswell would be expelled from Ukip following an ongoing row, Mr Farage said: “That will be up to the NEC to decide”

Which is why I don't understand McDonnell coming out with his pro Brexit line today. I thought it was the job of Blairites to be red Tories, not Corbynites. Consider this.

- Brexit is going to screw our econony
- It will become increasingly unpopular.
- 2/3 of Labour voters voted remain 90% of members, the vast majority of young people; and working people who are pretty much the ideal target voter in marginal seats.

Why would we not capitalise on that. The UKIP tendancy won't be placated, they should be minimised not pandered to.

Why when Corbyn banged on repeatedly about the importance of freedom of movement in the campaign ( which of course was unhelpful), have a crack at Watson for saying something needs to be done; does McDonnell just casually throw it away and say it will end.

Is it more, or less important in his eyes than secure jobs, annoyingly he didnt say.

It seems to have become an all too common amongst Labour MPs to go on about this. Owen Smith said it the other day and Cooper had her go as well. They have a good message on austerity I don't know why they don't use it instead of being drawn into the area where we can never win

The more honest leavers admit – as Melanie Phillips did when the two of us appeared on Newsnight this week – that they believe the break-up of the union is a price worth paying for the prize of sovereignty. But what kind of patriotism is this, that believes in an undiluted British sovereignty so precious it’s worth the sacrifice of Britain itself?

This evening in a pub in Yorkshireland confirmed a number of my beliefs.

One, England footballers are an overpaid bunch of whinging talentless knobs compared with an energetic inspired team performance from Wales ;-)

Two, we have to respect the Brexit vote. The sentiment from friends who I'm sure voted Brexit on impulse is we have to accept it and make the most of it. They may regret having voted Leave but they're not going to suddenly say we should Remain.

I mentioned the other day that I had a kind of idea of how to possibly sort out the referendum business. Basically, according to this link legislation has to be enacted by parliament.

https://ukconstitutionallaw.org/2016/06 ... able-role/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

So, what if The Commons voted in favour [MPs worries about re election etc] and The Lords voted against [no concerns about re election]. Usual back and forwards but ultimately The Lords table an amendment to which The Commons agree. Granted there is the Salisbury convention, but I'm simplifying for the moment.

An alternative argument is here.

https://www.nchlondon.ac.uk/2016/07/01/ ... july-2016/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Tbh my thoughts about the HofL thing came a few days ago but I have only skim read both links as I just wanted to put them here for possible discussion.

If the HoC vote in favour of brexit because the voters are mad about immigration, when at least 2/3 of them really oppose it, the country is irredeemable anyway.

I can just about see the govt actioning art50 on the back of the EUref, struggling to see it go through parliament, although it should. Maybe the remainers would abstain?

Hi,

I am a long, long time "lurker" or more accurately reader or follower.

Found this gem on Labour list. I hope it amuses and edifies rather than offends:
Septimus Plantpot • 5 hours ago

Dear Jeremy,

It is with a heavy heart and a solemn sense of duty that I write to tell you of my decision to resign from the Shadow Cabinet.

Those who will be hardest hit by the economic shock of Brexit (the same people
that I branded as ‘workshy’ when I abstained on the second reading of the Welfare Reform Bill) need a ruthless and unprincipled populist alternative to the Conservatives.

More than ever, the Party needs to compete for a slice of the Austerity agenda that has done so much to win power for the Conservatives. We need more European flexicurity, and a casualised and mobile workforce. And we need crocodile pits to punish the unemployed. As much as I respect you as a man with a beard who tends
an allotment, this does not sit well with my latte-guzzling friends in Hampstead. And you only went to North London Polytechnic. If you wanted to be a proper politician you would need to graduate with a First in PPE from Oxford. I came into politics to serve the people of Potty Town, and to make gobs of money by leaking draft s of your policies to the far-right press.

Furthermore, your opposition to this country’s (not very) independent nuclear deterrent is something that I can no longer tolerate. Since you were elected as leader, 9 months ago, with 59% of the vote, things have gone from bad to worse. You’ve won four byelections, put in a respectable performance in the local elections,
helped to repel the planned cuts to working tax credits, and won the ‘Remain’ vote amongst Labour voters. So it is increasingly clear to me and to every MP that was parachuted into their constituencies by Head Office that your position is untenable and you simply have to go. Yours ever,

Septimus Plantpot MP, Potty Town South (Majority at last election: 25)

The Green's statement has made a couple of facebook friends of a friend go berserk.

They hate Labour and the unions with a passion. They are for low taxation, privatisation, repatriation of existing immigrants (on Malthusian grounds) and despised Ed M as an insane anti-environment left-winger with dictatorial ambitions. Their views on Corbyn are that he's ten times worse.

I thought for quite a while they are UKIPers. I was wrong. They are both long-standing members of the Greens.
I'm getting tired of calming down....

I would say that they are very much in the minority in the green party, but there are some right wing greens. None who are that right wing that I have met, to be fair.
