Ministers consider new ‘national selection test’ to replace 11-plus

http://schoolsweek.co.uk/ministers-cons ... e-11-plus/
Ministers are considering a new “national selection test” to replace the 11-plus, with a ‘selective education team’ led by Nick Timothy established to drive through grammar proposals.

Minutes of a meeting between ministers and the Grammar School Heads’ Association (GSHA) also reveal that the government expects new grammar schools to recruit the top 10 per cent of pupils.

Education secretary Justine Greening also apparently told heads the response to a consultation on plans to expand selection in England was not “an overwhelming flood of negativity”.

The details emerged after the GSHA released a list of “key points” from meetings held with ministers “just after the consultation closed”.

The meetings also included representatives from the Department for Education’s selective education team – led by Timothy, the former New Schools Network boss who is now prime minister Theresa May’s chief of staff.
There you go - sod the evidence and never mind that we don't even know the results of the consultation - grammars are going ahead.

An increasingly evidence-led or informed profession, led by an ideologically-minded government which ignores evidence.

The Sun’s Steve Hawkes says Clive Lewis, who is expected to resign as shadow business secretary soon so he can vote against the article 50 bill at third reading, has been in to see Jeremy Corbyn.

But if Ohsocynical were here, she might be making a handy list of all the things the Tories have votes against:
Report to Parliament
Proper final vote in Parliament
Consult Wales, Scotland, Gibraltar
Strive for peace in N Ireland
Ensure we don't become a tax haven

And coming soon, don't privatise NHS

It's not complicated Paul.

What did those who voted for a 'progressive' 'left wing' 'pro-immigrant' [just some of the descriptions I heard people use] Brexit/Lexit think would happen when the Tories had a parliamentary majority ?

This might help answer pk1's question (well, it wasn't really a question- but anyway)

Why is the government keen to have so many votes? This tweet, from Huffington Post’s Paul Waugh, helps to explain the answer.

Paul Waugh (@paulwaugh)

Cabinet minister points out that with such a comprehensive Commons series of votes, Lords will find it impossible to hinder Brexit bill.
