Foreign students coming to the UK to study fell sharply in the year to September 2016, according to the Office for National Statistics.

The study showed 41,000 fewer students came to the UK for long-term study, the vast majority of the drop - 31,000 - coming from non-EU students.

Yeah but we're back in control and can make our own laws n'stuff. Because making new laws that we could probably have made anyway and getting rid of some EU ones which we'll almost certainly need in order to sell into the Eu is far better than a vaguely decent economy...

He's got a nice easy line in this stuff. You feel like Channel 4 are saying "look! he's black and all!"

I got the impression they were preparing another guy, Robert Beckford, for the same sort of role, but he was much better. I don't think he was on again.

Good points there, and about Oxford in general really. Cameron's "essay crisis" style rings true, though equally applies to other subjects. I didn't have to do any big projects, just weekly or twice weekly essays. I tried to do the job properly, setting out to write really good essays every time, but some others seemed to be scrambling to deadlines all the time, which isn't good.

However bad PPE is, vapid Maurice Glasman undercuts them.

Maurice Glasman say: “PPEists don’t do conflict. Oxford PPE reduces everything in politics to a technical question: what’s the right policy? PPE teaches you, ‘Don’t be vile to bankers after the financial crash. What they were doing wasn’t stealing; it was down to the wrong government policy.’”

That's pretty much what the guardian liveblog says as well. Even if the official declaration is late, in the Oldham West and Royton byelection he was reporting what the candidates were saying about the vote as it was counted right through the night and the result was clear fairly early on.

I hesitate to go into bat for Glasman but I thought he was being appropriately cynical about Oxford PPE when he said that.
