I think, Roger, that last post may be moot - it seems the Tories are moving against May (the Tory Propaganda rags are saying as such and they will have been tipped off)
I give her a month now - seems things want to be sorted before serious Brexit negotiations start
I am starting to feel sorry for her now, she is getting the same treatment Brown did
The indications are it is the completely vacuum of integrity and principles Johnson.......nauseating
(so frog, am I allowed to criticise someone or are you going to call be 'mean and spiteful' again- my criticisms are again based on my interpretation of fact and fail to see why there would be any difference between him and Hugo, neither of whom I have ever met, but who I hold in similar disdain based on what I do know)

Leading bosses have called on the new Government to steer clear of a hard Brexit and to negotiate a transitional arrangement with the European Union while making an urgent priority of granting full rights to EU citizens in the UK.
Paul Drechsler, president of the Confederation of British Industry, and Stephen Martin, director-general of the Institute of Directors, spoke out after the result of Thursday’s snap General Election was announced.

According to Yougov, Corbyn is now tied with May on "who would make the best PM" question. Both on 39%.
Apparently no Labour leader has tied or been ahead since 2008.
But there are still some churls saying he should be in front after the week she's had.

In a statement released Saturday night about the call with Merkel, a Downing Street spokesperson said: “The prime minister confirmed her intention for Brexit talks to begin as planned in the next couple of weeks, and that we would be looking for a reciprocal agreement on the rights of EU citizens and British citizens abroad at an early stage.”

Although still sporting that awful neck chain, the Guardian's front page suggests that Theresa May has been shocked into wearing a jacket that actually fits her. She's ditched the early Sean Spicer look.

If the British government cannot play the role of mediator it is not obvious who can. A previous attempt to use a distinguished American diplomat failed because only the British and Irish governments have the levers to cajole the parties into an agreement. Failure to reach agreement will catapult Northern Ireland into a serious crisis and back on to our front pages, where it has been happily absent for 20 years.

https://www.theglobalist.com/theresa-ma ... brexit-eu/
In a nutshell, during her premiership so far, Mrs. May has advocated, at various times and with varying intensity, for four different goals: more social inclusion, more sovereignty for the UK, a more global UK and the improvement of the UK economy’s productivity.
These goals, taken by themselves, might well be admirable. And not all of them are mutually exclusive, as one might think at first flush. For example, more emphasis on social inclusion can indeed enhance productivity over the longer term.
It is basically what Germany has always done via its concept of a social market economy.

The first thing I heard when I woke up this mornin' (der-dader-da-da) was that Downing Street had issued the statement in error. Easy mistake to make. I trust it wasn't Gavin Barwell's first effort.

I think I must have missed that? However, some Tories remained concerned that a pact would damage a brand they have spent years trying to detoxify.

There are seven people on the Sunday Politics panel.
Four of them are Raab, Soubry, JHB and Tom Newton Dunn. I am trying to identify the others by their pictures but they are not familiar to me.
Anyway, the point is: these shows are going to carry on talking to the same discredited old (overwhelmingly right-wing and over 45) faces as if nothing happened, aren't they?

Reflecting back on all this, I realise I'm still desperate for a space for people to discuss what an alliance of European nations (called the EU or whatever) would ideally look like.
If we could all talk about what the EU could be, rather than what it is and what it shouldn't be, we might all end up in a much happier place.

I think there is an interesting discussion on the minority Government
The feeling seems to be that the Tories are absolutely trying to avoid a new election
They are trying to do a deal with the DUP but if that fails then Labour could have a go.....if Labour do have a go with the approach they have talked about then if the Tories want to vote them down then we move to a new election which they don't want
The Tories are in a horrible position - they need to have the deal, if not then it is probably a new election
The momentum is with Labour.....and that is important if there is another election within 6 months
The alternative is a weak Tory Government beholden to the DUP.....and I cannot see that helping them

One of the more interesting themes on Twitter in the last few days is the condescension towards left-wing (overwhelmingly under 40, many of them women) journalists who were way more accurate about this election than the usual gobshite blowhards like JHB, Toby fecking Young and Dan "2000 votes from the abyss" Hodges.
Even being accurate, and reasonably free of jeering schadenfreude, doesn't seem to prevent it, as you can see here...
