Deliberately penalising people for doing nothing wrong and in the vast majority of cases no way of a avoiding is never right at any time.

Good morfternoon.

Sky'sGoneOut covered this last night, but -

I watched, for the first time in years, part of BBC Question Time just to see what it was like "Under New Management". Fiona Bruce , on her first outing on the programme, was a breath of fresh air.

Apparently they did some off-air auditions with an audience and she wiped the floor with the opposition. I forgot it was on, I usually watch 5 or 10 minutes. I've seen the clip of yellow-jacket woman, she was ace.

I'm hopeful Bruce will now give up reading the news sooner rather than later as I find her expressions very annoying.

No doubt helpful commentators will summarise this for us before long, but in the meantime.
Quote:
Conclusion
62. In the circumstances of this case, the defendant wrongly interpreted regulation 54 of
the Regulations and wrongly assumed that where salaries for two different months
were received during the same assessment period, the combined salaries from the two
months were to be treated as earned income in respect of that assessment period. As a
result, the decisions under challenge in this case are flawed. Further submissions will
need to be made to identify the appropriate remedy.

Interesting to see the generally positive reviews of Fiona Bruce's QT debut. Lets see if she can maintain this standard.

I am, obviously deeply sceptical about diet advice online but have read a few things and this seems like a reasonable summary of what is probably good (sometimes just 'fine, shouldn't affect' and sometimes 'might do some good' - cherries sound like they might actually be particularly good, and are delicious.)

Quote:
Fruits: All fruits are generally fine for gout. Cherries may even help prevent attacks by lowering uric acid levels and reducing inflammation (23, 24).
Vegetables: All vegetables are fine, including potatoes, peas, mushrooms, eggplants and dark green leafy vegetables.
Legumes: All legumes are fine, including lentils, beans, soybeans and tofu.
Nuts: All nuts and seeds.
Whole grains: These include oats, brown rice and barley.
Dairy products: All dairy is safe, but low-fat dairy appears to be especially beneficial (11, 18).
Eggs
Beverages: Coffee, tea and green tea.
Herbs and spices: All herbs and spices.
Plant-based oils: Including canola, coconut, olive and flax oils.

'Avoid' stuff seems to be offal, oily fish, sugar etc and refined carbs.

Edit - Ha! My list is from Hindle's linked page.

Labour should commit to increasing benefits/allowances to either in one off or inbuilt compensatory (to make up for exponential loss)fashion to those not expected to work, else forever "behind".

At the end of a rather difficult week (among other things our kitten was bitten by another car just after Christmas, so I've been juggling vets & antibiotics etc on top of everything else) I find myself sat browsing Twitter this evening and pondering what all the people I started following because of all the good stuff they tweet on Brexit will be talking about when we finally leave/don't leave.

Meanwhile, we have the opposite number to emergency phantom ferries and practice lorry park airstrips:

I hope the cat's ok and that the vet bill wasn't too painful. (I assume the patient was bitten by another cat - and not another car. Car bites can be really nasty.)

Ha! Yes, another cat. We didn't see it happen but assume it's the same black cat that has chased him a couple of times before. He's on his second week of antibiotics and is pretty well in himself, but unfortunately the puncture wound has left a pretty deep hole which might need surgery if it doesn't fill out on its own. Just the drugs and consults have already been expensive enough, I don't want to think what surgery will cost but the main worry is that the location makes it quite tricky to operate on so I'm really hoping it doesn't come to that.

On the upside, the guinea pig which had the UTI back in the autumn has put weight back on and is full of vim and vigour, so that's one less worry at least.
