Good morefternoon, all.
New proposed parliamentary boundaries for England released in the early hours - Cumbria a total dog's dinner just as in the "zombie" review.

Yes, I'd just dropped our opt out letters off at the GP this morning. Typical.

Good afternoon. Kids gone home. Wife going down to see her parents tomorrow leaving me to fend for myself for a few days. How ever will I cope?

Good thread on the debate about the Society of Antiquaries and others being forced out of Burlington House by an eye wateringly massive rent increased.

Hmmm...so the Telegraph were fine with all the rest of her shit, including her Islamophobic abuse of Ash Sarkar, but have decided abusing a royal baby is grounds for her sacking. Well I never.

Re: Tuesday 8th June 2021
I'm just pleased they've saved me the effort of dicking around trying to get my ancient printer working. It's absolutely absurd that I can see my medical records online, order a repeat prescription online, book a Covid vaccination online, but to opt out of having my records shared online I have to fill in a form by hand and drop it off at the surgery. It's almost as if they were making it as difficult as they thought they could possibly get away with. Who knows, come September they might claim your opt out is only valid if you deliver it orally in the form of an epic poem.
Re: Tuesday 8th June 2021
I'm sure I've filled in and submitted an opt-out form before. They don't give up, do they? And I don't have a printer, so it's an even more convoluted process than it could otherwise be.

Re: Tuesday 8th June 2021
You can have my printer if you like, it's spent most of its life as a dust collector under a pile of books. It was top of the range about 5 years ago but the ink cartidges are so expensive I've hardly used it. I think the last time I turned it on was to scan some old photographs last year. It could be worse though, I got a grill/sandwich toaster thing about the same time that I used once then shoved in a cupboard. From that single use it has burned on cheese that is now half a decade old. You can have that too if you like.
Re: Tuesday 8th June 2021
Tempting (the sandwich toaster nearly clinched it), but ...

Oh look. It's like deja vu all over again.
When the Treasury is leaking that it would be fine with an extra months delay to the end of what remains of lockdown you know 'freedom day' is going to be another of those days when Johnson says 'alas'.

Re: Tuesday 8th June 2021
I could throw in an old barometer that's littering the place. Everyone needs a vague idea of atmospheric pressure.
Re: Tuesday 8th June 2021
Yes - when I read earlier that Rishi Sunak was indicating that he could live with a delay, I thought then that the writing was on the wall. My daughter's friend's pregnant friend has Covid and is in ICU down here in the beautiful south. She's been taken off the ventilator, and is stable\improving but it's taking a long time. All future variants in the UK should be called the Johnson (#1, #2, etc) Variant. Although he'd probably manage to turn it into some sort of personal accolade, so perhaps that's not such a good idea.
Re: Tuesday 8th June 2021
I know someone who gives me a daily bulletin on the barometer reading over the 'phone, but thanks anyway. I won't mention to him that there's a barometer going begging, though.

Re: Tuesday 8th June 2021
That's awful. What makes me laugh (bitterly) is we have a bunch of Southern Tory back benchers once again bleating that there's no Covid in their part of the country so we should reopen when just fucking months ago their part of the country produced and then exported the worst version of this virus the world had ever seen.

I'm not at all keen on opera, but I'm rather taken with that one.
