Good afternoon.

hardly a surprise. But this is only that they object to the financial aspect of it not the policy itself. It's been pointed out that Blair wanted to do something similar in 2004 - did it not happen because he was advised it was illegal and/or unworkable?

If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

Sorry, but comparing Starmer with Orban in any way at all just makes the person doing it appear like a raving nutter.

AK -- you obviously know very little about Starmer apart from a belief he's lovely, full stop ! Greater love hath no man than that he should lay down his brain for his Party Leader. Unlike Trump and Johnson, SKS was pretty much an unknown quantity before his election and even now a few years later . Virtually NO investigative journalism into his past, so he was obviously a safe pair of hands for the Establishment . I still don't know if his dad was a humble employed toolmaker working all hours, or he owned the bloody shop and worked all hours. Wikipedia was laundered very early on .

People, like those two, have moved considerably rightwards since in their case, the mid Nineties . Orban WAS a great freedom-lover, now look at him ? Starmer did a few good things in his youth, but McLibel is an equally long time ago . NOW he is purging the LP of the 'wrong sort of Jew' and any other open lefties he can get his claws into.

The Len McCluskey interview is VERY much worth a watch.

PS the Crime of 'Equivalence' is a Starmer invention used against Free Speech and Thinking which as a disciple you apply to the letter. Even Blair didn't do that against the Lefties ;-)

Almost certainly the latter, but possibly the former when he first started work. In which case, good for him. It isn't inconsistent with the idea that Starmer's family weren't particularly prosperous when he was a child.

A safe pair of hands for the establishment seems to be the best we can hope for, depressing thought.

I almost certainly know more about Starmer than you do, frog.

I don't think he is "lovely", I do think comparing him directly with Johnson (still less Orban) is ridiculous and reflects poorly on those doing it.

Its like the "no difference between Macron and le Pen" spiel, and they are actually arguably more similar than BoJo and Keir.

Keir Starmer was Director of Public Prosecutions for 5 years fgs. He's hardly a dark horse. It's very easy to surmise what kind of man he is from the public record. He's not a rebel, he's not Citizen Smith, he's never going to appeal to the section of the left who dream of revolution and bringing down "the establishment" but that doesn't mean he's not left-wing or capable of representing and implementing left-wing ideals. He clearly has a commitment to serve the public interest, which straight away sets him apart from the average Tory. Spivs and chancers who are all in it for themselves like Johnson and co don't spend years working diligently in defence of human rights and for organisations like Liberty. He might not be exactly what some on the left would prefer but the idea he would be "more of the same" is ridiculous.

Meanwhile Johnson is turning into a liability. Depressing it took so long but a relief all the same that the public appear to be beginning to have had enough.

Johnson has been taken off Tory literature and leaflets, but that's certainly not true for their opponents.

Boris Johnson may be "out" on Conservative Party literature but, here at any rate, grocers apostophe's are most definitely "in".

Au contraire, mon ami

Getting rid of Bridgen from our tv screens would be a very good thing indeed, as I'm sure you'll agree.

I was going to apologise for not doing a QT review the other night (I was off up visiting the folks) but I've just looked and it wasn't on so I won't.

My dad, who has never voted in his life, is so disgusted by Johnson that he said he'll be doing so for the first time at the next GE. Let's hope there are many more like him.

Surely Bridgen should have understood his family were keeping him away from the vegetable business for his own good. I mean if he'd been involved he'd have been in perpetual danger of being bagged up and sold by mistake.

So let me get this straight. A miraculous rabbit that laid chocolate eggs was brutally executed by being nailed to a hot cross bun then came back from the dead only to become a sort of ghost rabbit like in Watership Down? That all sounds pretty unlikely to me.

I mean if I was unjustly executed and came back to life I'd be furious and out for revenge. I wouldn't conveniently disappear and become some airy-fairy spirit. I'd get tooled up like Arnie with as man weapons as I could carry and set up traps like in Predator then lure my enemy in.

Even if I was a rabbit.

I read - and wish I hadn't bothered - an "article" (actually a book extract) by Douglas Murray in the DM this morning. The strapline was all about Marx being a racist but he appears only after a lengthy diatribe against the current CofE.

This bit amused me:

On the contrary, as recently as 2016, Salford University unveiled a new memorial to Friedrich Engels, co-author with Marx of The Communist Manifesto, in part to commemorate the fact that the two of them used to drink in a nearby pub in the 1840s.

Ah right, not because he wrote The Condition of the Working-Class in England based on his experiences in the area then? Nope, it's about going to the pub...

This why we need Johnson to stay where he is.

He lists a few of the responses he got when people were asked what they thought of Johnson. My favourite being...

Tories don't have anybody obviously good to replace him with, though.

As long as he remains, so will the rather bizarre media love affair with him ("giant squatting toad" and all that)
