Re: Wednesday 13th July 2022
Good morning.
Good to see that some teaching union leaders are pushing back about this nonsense from Badenoch.
And it comes as absolutely no surprise that my favourite ex-teacher turned not-the-CofE cleric "Reverend" Calvin Robinson is a Badenoch supporter. Although it's kinda weird as I thought he was part of the inner circle of Fox's Reclaim Party. Foot in both camps...

If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

The first tweet is an "OK, interesting idea" although Sam Freedman argues for the other way round - growth at treasury, Spending in No 10...but the the 2nd tweet says both in No 10. A lot of replies pointing to George Brown's Department for Economic Affairs...

Unlike the Labour one they dubiously ruled out of order, it simply refers to confidence in "the government" with no mention of Johnson personally.

Did we ever get a reason for Labour abstaining in the Lords on free school meals for the children of UC claimants?
All I could find last night was some vague blather about them having their own cunning plan.

Still a mystery to me too... unless there's no cunning plan and WYSIWYG = Blue Keith .Sky'sGoneOut wrote: ↑Wed 13 Jul, 2022 3:41 pm Did we ever get a reason for Labour abstaining in the Lords on free school meals for the children of UC claimants?

https://skwawkbox.org/2022/07/13/starme ... -families/The motion fell by 108 votes to 51. Of Labour’s 167 peers – more than enough to have pushed through the amendment – only three defied Starmer’s order. In a rambling speech, close Starmer ally Jenny Chapman said the party would support the free school meals plan (amendment 58), but only if the government also supported it.

This is completely nonsensical for a number of obvious reasons. I'm genuinely baffled by this and I note Labour's more centrist cheerleaders online have avoided mentioning it at all, presumably because even they can't defend (or understand) it.
If Labour were arguing that UC should be raised to a level where kids wouldn't need free school meals I could perhaps understand it but they've done no such thing.

Jeremy Hunt - LOL.
All that humiliating himself to win right wing support, and totally in vain. Still, couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

I haven't read much at all on the Mo Farah story , but what did shock me is that he says he was so relieved the Home Office hadn't bothered him, and they even found it necessary to bloody say so .
So ... he's been living with that fear for how long ?

Looking at that result I can't see anything other than it being Sunak and Mordaunt as the final two going to the membership and them voting for her.
This of course comes with the enormous caveat that I have a habit of getting things wrong.
Let's hope that's the case this time because she's the one Labour should be most worried about.

And you've got to wonder how Zahawi is feeling. All those years doing the dirty work being sent out to defend the indefensible, all that scheming and maneuvering in an effort to finally get his just reward, and he gets beaten by Suella Braverman.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Wed 13 Jul, 2022 5:22 pm Jeremy Hunt - LOL.

That's gotta hurt. I mean that's proper crushing humiliation.

There are rumours some dirt on Mordaunt is about to be flung. And there are enough right wing votes for Truss to target - its not over just yet.Sky'sGoneOut wrote: ↑Wed 13 Jul, 2022 5:37 pm Looking at that result I can't see anything other than it being Sunak and Mordaunt as the final two going to the membership and them voting for her.

I mean, I don't understand it either (and these sorts of strange looking things *do* often have explanations, even if not totally convincing ones)Sky'sGoneOut wrote: ↑Wed 13 Jul, 2022 4:59 pmThis is completely nonsensical for a number of obvious reasons. What is it with the Guardian? describing Braverman and Badenoch as “right-leaning” and seeking to win ‘the mini-race for prominence among right-leaning culture warriors’ is, to say the least, selling it short. Rather like the BBC always attributing left wing credentials to those organisations warranting it, but never fingering the Inst of Economic Affairs, for instance, as what it is, well right of centre. No, it’s a “free-market think-tank”.
The drinks are on me! Cheers.

If I had Deepti Gurdasani after me I'd be shitting myself.
These allegations about Cohen's wandering hands have been around for as long as I've been online. Back when Channel 4 had a news forum someone claiming to have been an intern at the Observer posted some pretty grim things about her experience of him. That would have been about 2004. Up until now there's been no actual evidence but if Maugham has screenshots perhaps that's about to change.
