Rise of Omicron subvariants sends UK staff absence soaring
Blow to businesses as 300,000 workers took time off due to Covid last month, with BA.4 and BA.5 the majority of new infections
There are also many many thousands of suspect-symptomatic people still working .Seen two in the last two days . One young girl in the boulangerie said she’had a negative test , which of course ain’t necessarily valid, the other was coughing and generally spluttering, and knowing him a bit I bet he hadn’t tested — bad for bizness ! Luckily his bar is very big, and was empty, so easy to keep my distance . I still didn’t linger
There is still a minority masking in most shops, but it’s a small one …

https://www.theguardian.com/business/20 ... ce-soaring” Tony Wilson, the head of the Institute for Employment Studies, said the recent strains of Covid were “not killing many people, but it is knocking them out”. He said the scale of the problem was not captured by official figures, which underestimated the disruption Covid was causing.

Prof Kevin Fenton, president of the Faculty of Public Health, said there was a growing number of people developing severe symptoms. “While we have more to learn about the new variants BA.4 and BA.5, the threat of Covid-19 remains and so too does the need for continued efforts to help prevent the spread of infection.” ”

Meanwhile at Axminster an elderly couple (or at least pair of people) stopped in the no stopping zone so "he" could disembark. Told the train bloke they had to stop there because "he" couldn't walk very far to the ticket machine because "he" (and "she") had covid. He was buying a ticket for that day to go to London to get his flight to South Africa.

I mean, you have to trust negative (or indeed positive) tests to some extent even though they certainly aren't foolproof.

There aren't many groups whose membership is *universally* bad - even a few Tories and Kippers are OK people at the end of the day.
I would say organised anti-vaxxers fit that bill, though.
