Morning all.

Good morning.
Over 330,000 excess deaths in Great Britain linked to austerity, finds study
But sure, let's do it again.
Over 330,000 excess deaths in Great Britain linked to austerity, finds study
The authors of the study suggest additional deaths between 2012 and 2019 – prior to the Covid pandemic – reflect an increase in people dying prematurely after experiencing reduced income, ill-health, poor nutrition and housing, and social isolation.
............................
The study, published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, found there were 334,327 excess deaths beyond the expected number in England, Wales and Scotland over the eight-year period.
But sure, let's do it again.

Truss has already come up with one whopper in this speech - her being "the first ever comprehensive educated PM" will be news to Brown and May.

Nah didn't actually watch the thing - do you think I'm mad?
Picked it up from the internetz, I'm afraid. She also seems to think Andy Street was elected as mayor of "Birmingham".

Reeves really, really shouldn't be allowed to talk about anything outside her actual brief.
Where is Cooper, anyway - especially given all the centrists who wailed and moaned about how her "incredible talents" were going to waste on the back benches?

We went for our boosters last week, no masks in sight anywhere in the chemists despite the appointment notice saying they were required.
As usual, in a small and totally unventilated inside room.
We seem to have survived unscathed.

As for Reeves, plenty of centrists on twitter pointing out that the headline was wrong and it's ok, she only wants to deport failed asylum seekers.
Pfft.

I disagree with some on these things, as I do think there is a justification for telling people that the Tories have failed *even on their own terms*.
But no, you don't do that by adopting their own framing literally wholesale.

When it comes to immigration I think it would be much better to keep schtum, if you aspire to an immigration system that actually works.I do think there is a justification for telling people that the Tories have failed *even on their own terms*
Stoking prejudice is never a good look for Labour.

Too right ! It made me think of the ED MUG --gilsey wrote: ↑Wed 05 Oct, 2022 2:44 pmWhen it comes to immigration I think it would be much better to keep schtum, if you aspire to an immigration system that actually works.I do think there is a justification for telling people that the Tories have failed *even on their own terms*

https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/john-w ... 64734.htmlEd Miliband appears uncomfortable whenever he's forced to discuss immigration. His recent performance as the leaders' Q and A with Kay Burley and Jeremy Paxman proved there are marked and clear difference between his vision of Britain and David Cameron's. But within Labour there remains an influential nucleus of Blairites who believe that the party's priority should be doing whatever it takes to avoid the wrath of the Daily Mail, even if it means acquiescing in the demonisation of those deemed unworthy of a place at society's table - i.e. immigrants and, as Labour's shadow works and pensions secretary Rachel Reeves recently revealed, people on benefits.
Labour's immigration mug symbolises the extent to which the right is dominating the battle of ideas. It will be a collector's item for racists up and down the country.

It's possible to argue that one of Ed's problems at the time was that nobody really believed he had 'concerns about immigration'.
Nobody has any difficulty believing it of Reeves.
Ed is the one more in tune with today's electorate.

They are pretty smart, aren't they.
They'll be insufferable for years if they win, but still greatly preferable to the alternative.
