This is indeed a great shame. HOWEVER, today will bring us Gustaph from Belgium. It's early days, but I think we may have a winner.

All I will say for now is that it would have been nice if all these people had been as upset about Braverman's comments earlier in the week.

Meanwhile I've tried to edit the header and failed (ie: can't work out how to do it).
Given the existential crisis facing democracy itself, I wonder if there is more we can do to prevent it's downfall.

Tbf would expect Jones to go hard on it, was thinking more about both lobby hacks like Waugh and Corbynite ultras who are only interested in dissing Starmer.

Good afternoon.
I see that the SNP's auditors have now decided to quit - the Party imploding nicely...I also note there are calls from the person that lost that they should, therefore, have the leadership election re-run.
Not sure I follow the logic but all adds to the feeling that they are in a bit of a crisis right now.

Re: Friday 7th April to Monday 10th April 2023
I'm sorry, what? Literally no-one, outside a handful of Labour MPs, think this is a good thing. All Labour have done is paint a bullseye on Starmer for both hypocrisy (he attacked Johnson over "soft on pedos" rhetoric") and the fact that Starmer himself was on the sentencing guidelines committee - so if soft sentences are anyone's fault, it's his.AnatolyKasparov wrote: ↑Fri 07 Apr, 2023 3:47 pm Tbf would expect Jones to go hard on it, was thinking more about both lobby hacks like Waugh and Corbynite ultras who are only interested in dissing Starmer.

Gustaph from Belgium brings us Pure EuroPop for Now People, and his dancers are just ace. Talk about flexible - crikey!
Given my ongoing nostalgia crisis, it will come as absolutely no surprise to hear that many components of "Because of you" reminded me of Various Things From The Past. Gustaph himself brought to mind a rather less-elfin Marc Almond (embellished with beard and baseball cap), while the video was like a polished version of Tales of the Unexpected's opening credits. Marvellous.
Clanger rating:
Was it fun? This was the sort of terrible, joyful nonsense that Eurovision used to be. It was great fun.
Was it dancey? See above.
What would Terry have said about it? I am 100% confident Tezza would have remarked on Gustaph's truly eye-catching outfit.

The same people, or at least those very like them, who launched a dirty tricks campaign against Corbyn , are now exposing their grubby natures to the world .
A magnificent own goal from the Starmer cultists . Counter ads on LABOUR's theme for the undeserving Tories are now all over twitterdom.
I still feel sorry for Emily Thornberry, but remember she signed the BoD's Ten Pledges when she was going for the Leadership. Clive Lewis didn't get so far as that decision, and I hope he would have seen the trap.

Re: Friday 7th April to Monday 10th April 2023
Liverpool hosting Eurovision reminds me of a tale about when it was the European City of Culture. JK Rowling had a new book out (don't ask me which one, I neither know nor care) but what's signficant is that someone had stolen some copies from somewhere in Liverpool prior to the launch.
A (Scouse, with accent) acquaintance, described the situation as something along the lines of:
"Scousers eh? Make 'em the City of Culture and they start nicking books instead of cars."

Contrary to what some on here seem to think, I have never actually defended the ad in question.
But tbh this sort of stuff misses the point - its nothing to do with polls, its about the Tories still being allowed by most of the media to play politics on easy mode. Braverman came out with the most inflammatory and disgusting stuff earlier in the week, and most lobby hacks just shrugged.
The motivation for this may well have been wanting to give the Tories a taste of their own medicine.
Whether it was conceived or executed as well as it might have been is another question, of course.

Re: Friday 7th April to Monday 10th April 2023
Wow, Croatia. So much to say, and yet so impossible to articulate. Let's just say that Let 3's "Mama SC!" defies any meaningful description. There's such a wide range of costumes, interspersed with distressed clown make-up and flag-waving, that it's difficult to understand what we are seeing. (Of course not speaking Croatian is an issue here.) It all seems generally rather dark, in a zany up-beat (and yet dark) kind of way. It also includes a man in a wild coat on an ice-flow. There are sequins, but somehow even they manage to come across as just threatening.
Truly out there. I suspect it's going to do pretty well.
Clanger rating:
Was it fun? I think so - but it depends on what Let 3's derangement was actually conveying
Was it dancey? I was too distracted to notice.
What would Terry have said about it? I have no idea, but he would definitely have said something.

Am no fan of SKS but am pretty sure there are worse people at large - and while I've withdrawn from the party am still not sure what the alternative to Labour is. Politics is full of career politicians and bullshit, and the world is going to hell. So what's (or what are) the least worst option/s?

It's just that we were all told that the previous leadership was chaotic and unprofessional, and it would all improve, now the 'sensible grown-ups' were in charge.tinyclanger2 wrote: ↑Sun 09 Apr, 2023 5:14 pm Am no fan of SKS but am pretty sure there are worse people at large - and while I've withdrawn from the party am still not sure what the alternative to Labour is. Since then, it's been a long run of broken promises, lies, back-stabbing and outright bigotry.
I don't want to have to vote for the 'least worst option' (and even that is tenuous at best). It would just be nice to have a party that actually believes in making people's lives better...maybe I'll start looking at the Greens?

Re: Friday 7th April to Monday 10th April 2023
Today's stop in our Eurovision odyssey takes us to Cyprus, where Andrew Lambrou dons a leather jacket to whine about ducks flying off to Russia (see the earlier review of Austria's "Who the hell is Edgar"). To be honest I'm perplexed by the massive increase, of late, in the wearing of leather clothing, more of which is displayed here. It reminds me of a night in Lubeck (or was it Hamburg?) many years ago. We'd been noting the preponderance of leather trousers among the German youths at the time, but were still astonished by the sight of a man in a nightclub wearing leather dungarees.
But I digress. Today's host, Andrew, is so upset about a young lady's poor behaviour towards him, that he resorts to the use of falsetto. "You did your best to do your worst" he complains, as flocks of metaphorical ducks fly eastward across the setting sun.
Still, kudos for getting Dave Stewart to play guitar.
Clanger rating:
Was it fun? As a friend in Hamburg (or was it Lubeck?) remarked at the time: "I feel sorry for the cows."
Was it dancey? No
What would Terry have said about it? It's possible he may simply have been polite.
