On a very minor plus side, once Cameron gets over the huge ego trip of scraping a win, he has an absolute nightmare ahead of him.
How is he going to deliver all those promises? What is he going to do about Europe? How is he going to handle ongoing Tory civil war?

UKPR's just full of gloating Tories. The opinion polls were miles out. Problem is, when the Tories have gerrymandered the seats, we won't need opinion polls. I hope those who couldn't be arsed to educate themselves about what the Tories are doing, and will do, enjoy the next series of X-Factor.

We English clearly have never gotten beyond the cap doffing. We have been told that we are better off in "their" hands (Public School/Oxbrdidge/Titled/Landowning class) for more than 2000 years, and it seems there are plenty still believe it.Spacedone wrote:I'm not sure what Labour can do to be honest, it's the electorate who have turned insane and it them who are going to have to realise what they've just done. Something is seriously awry with an electoral system that depends on the vagaries of ministers holding onto constituency seats. My preference has always been PR where parties have an executive committee charged with ministerial duties and separate representatives for constituency matters. This of course would have required a far more radical shift than the AV we were offered but having kept the status quo has likely ruined any such prospect.
I would close my eyes if I couldn't dream.

Big picture, the coalition government has taken a hammering, 50 odd seats down. The fact the Tories have managed to cling to power won't change that. People are going to get very angry at Cameron very quickly (I give it 6 months).Spacedone wrote:I'm not sure what Labour can do to be honest, it's the electorate who have turned insane and it them who are going to have to realise what they've just done. Brighton Pavilion to be yet to be announced. We need a green MP now more than ever to fight against the vicious tories
Oh yes, and what exactly will one Green MP be able to do ?
Particularly when another Labour seat would help towards keeping the 'vicious Tories' out.

Personally I'm not sure there is anybody in the Shadow Cab that I'd vote for.
I would vote for Dan Jarvis though.
We needed 30+ seats that went Tory. We didn't get them because of the leader and the political strategy adopted.
Charlie Whelan, and others, lost this in 2010 with their selfish naivety.
Umunna is the best bet, or possibly even Creasy (but I don't think her personal circumstances allow.
If it is Burnham, Labour has given up trying to win.

When I think of the hours and hours the Labour party spent canvassing and all of the Conservatives that didn't even bother to show up.
If I hear anyone who didn't bother to vote, or voted Conservative bewailing their lot then tough shit. They'll get not an ounce of sympathy from me.
I'm afraid from now on it's going to become less and less like the England we knew.
I so wish Ed would stay on. It needs a clever statesman to fight for us. I joined because of Ed, because of his cleverness. Not sure I'd want to support anyone else at present.

Ridiculous! We have to analyse why the right won. It's complex but one factor is that the electorate aren't interested in politics. Another is that the media are owned by the right. Any silver linings? Well, we don't know for definite that Clouncy will get a majority (yet)...(they need to win 2 out of 3 of the remaining declarations to get it) - and the mess he (and Gidiot et al) need to clear up now is their own...and they are still omnnishambolic frackwits without a clue, sucking on the putrid teat of Murkydochia.
...but, of course, now the MSM has decided on a 'stunning majority' for Clouncy, it'll be 'the British people back Clouncy so any carve up of the other 330 seats would have'.....you've guessed it....'no legitimacy'...

Hopefully Cameron will just renege on the EU referendum now he doesn't need UKIP - but what about Scotland? Will losing the Scots become part of his forthcoming massive gerrymander?
What is the best plan now? Campaign for PR? Grassroots rebuliding of Labour? Campaign to implement Leveson? Bearing in mind Generation Vote and their single issue leanings how can we best adapt to win next time? (And by "we" I mean the decent majority - whoever they voted for this time).
