Apparently Le Pen is on Andrew Marr tomorrow. On Remembrance Sunday.

Did no-one at the BBC think "Wait. That's maybe not such a great idea..."?

I didn't like to bring that scenario up. It makes you (me\one) feel a bit hysterical. But I'm worried that if we let up on the "whinge-o-rama" (which description is itself an attempt to belittle the people who are awake to the dangers) things will simply escalate. We've been too slow to react to such threats before. Both here, recently, and in Europe further back in the past. It all starts somewhere, after all. And it usually follows our ridiculing (and I'm as guilty of that as the next person) the root of the danger.

So if the intention is to keep things the same, why change it in the first place? These kind of statements are so insulting.

Two days after Donald Trump was elected president, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, an ardent Trump supporter, admitted the president-elect's promise to get Mexico to fund his proposed border wall may have just been "a campaign device." "He may not spend much time trying to get Mexico to pay for it," Gingrich said of a hypothetical border structure. "But it was a great campaign device."

Putting in the link rather than using the YouTube tag because this is in four parts on YT and it's easier to go there to make it work than to embed it here, but just in case anybody has an hour or so to kill, can I just thoroughly recommend...

Tony Harrison - V

Content warning - very sweary. One of the things that earned Michael Grade and Channel 4 in its early years their Daily Heil label of 'The Nations Pornographers In Chief.

But V is completely wonderful, and Harrison's reading of his own poem even more so.

Still, I wish that my old friend and former White House correspondent Pat Sloyan hadn’t just sent me the oldest, most chilling thesis of the lot – from America’s greatest journalist, HL Mencken, in 1920. “As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Indeed, calling such people racist is the real racism these days  :P
Racists can be rehabilitated, it's just a lot of work. I reckon a good chunk of the EDL's membership would pass a lie detector test by saying they weren't racist. Not saying they aren't, but that they don't perceive themselves as such. Those are the ones that can be talked out of it.

Hi all,

Long time no post. It's all so depressing. If you're not depressed enough read this. It's from the summer before Trump's election and gives a broader historical perspective. But, be warned it's quite fatalistic. It show's how with each step society takes you don't realise where you're heading. Sorry if it's been posted before.
