Thankyou for voicing my own miserable failings re twitter.
I just tried joining Twitter. Easy enough. I read up on hastags too and it seemed to make sense. But what do I tweet? Do I just send it out into the ether? What on earth do people find to say? Any ideas gratefully welcome. I'd like to show some support for Ed but not sure how.
Just put something simple like - I support Ed #webackEd Press the blue Tweet button and off it goes. What I did was follow a few people first and watched how it worked. Then I did some reTweets if I agreed with what they said, and took it from there. I'm dimayray if you want to start off....

This cheered me up immensely on a coldish, very wet and windy autumn evening.
Accentuate the positive, or: the beginning of the end - Barnet Tories in humiliating defeat over cuts
http://wwwbrokenbarnet.blogspot.co.uk/
Standing ovation for the victory over nursery cuts won by Labour Cllr Rebecca Challice (caption to great pic at top of blog)

A packed Town Hall, last night, for the Full Council Meeting, as was expected, with the proposed savage cuts to Barnet libraries and nursery provision on the agenda, followed by an 'Extraordinary' meeting held to debate Labour's motion of no confidence in the Tory leader, Richard Cornelius, in the aftermath of the highly critical Lloyd-Jones report into the failure of governance, and legal services...

So many residents turned up last night the council was obliged to open up an overspill room, which itself overflowed- hundreds of people, many of them parents at Moss Hall, one of the nurseries affected by the cuts. ...
People do seem to be getting angrier and angrier ... it's not just Scotland which has woken up and smelt the coffee.

Editing to add: Ernst - if you drop in - read this one. It will sing to you, I promise.

I briefly worked under (Clare) Lloyd-Jones. Monitoring Officer at a London council. Not universally popular but a no nonsense sort who seemed to know what she was talking about. She seems to have hammered Barnet Council.
There is no-one who understands local government law in depth at Barnet.

Barnet employs no lawyers.

There are staff in key roles in the Governance structure in Barnet who are inexperienced in governance matters.

There was no clear protocol for clearing council reports throughtaking external legal or other specialist advice.

It sounds like Barnet's Monitoring Officer (which is a seriously important and high paid job) isn't a lawyer.

Incredible.

Wow, guess where the shitstorm's come from?
Barnet’s legal service was outsourced through a shared service agreement with Harrow Council under the One Barnet mass-privatisation programme in April 2012 on the basis that it would save money and provide greater flexibility and capacity to manage the council’s legal work more efficiently. But the independent report suggests that Barnet does not have “access to pro-active professional and expert advice at all relevant times” and that “the clienting of the HBPL service has had no professional legal input looking at the quality of legal advice given for 18 months”. Last month’s performance data also shows the outsourced service is currently overspent by £138,000 or 7.7% of the overall budget.
So outsourced, with no lawyers kept on.
Don't you need at least a couple of them to spot the problems and tell you when to ring up the experts?
And indeed, as this says, to tell you whether the legal advice you're getting is up to scratch.

Where's Eric?

Well yes Tubby. But have you forgotten that Grayling doesn't believe we need someone with legal expertise in the position of Lord Chancellor ... Tories seem to have a pattern of this.

Yes. Getting the hang of it, I think. Makes more sense than Facebook, anyway (thank God!). I see the #webackEd managed to trend.
I've always felt winning the next election was going to be about momentum and timing. Today was a bad day for Cameron and Osborne re the EU bill. They've never looked more shallow and deceitful. Now would be a very good time for a Labour resurgence to gain some momentum, whilst the Tories are distracted over Rochester. I hope a bit of solidarity for Ed will help give Labour that push they need to get the ball rolling.

Well over 10000 tweets (not including retweets) apparently. Not bad. Woke a few people up; Owen Jones stuck his head above the parapet and made a (carefully neutral) comment about it, at least he had the manners to include the tag.

There’s 6 months to a general election - and Ed Miliband is still the right person to lead Labour into that battle with the Tories #webackEd
Could FTN tweet him back with something like - yes there bloody is - and an awful lot of it - we want something different!

I reckon the old saying that you can judge a person (persons) by the company they keep applies here. There's a particularly offensive view, or hilarious, I'm still undecided, that sperm when ejaculated inside a woman is never wasted, it penetrates our tissue and the attitudes of the lucky chap is passed onto us.. Still the Kippers had a million quid aligning themselves to such charmers.

Oh hello, I've returned.

I managed to snatch victory from the jaws of disaster this morning when the sun finally came out and the place I wanted to go to was open...albeit very wet which is why I ended up changing not only my walking shoes but socks and trousers before hotfooting it by coach to the airport.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

Ed Miliband in new crisis as senior Labour MPs back a leadership change

http://gu.com/p/436ex" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I mean, really?

" On Saturday, Johnson appeared to suggest he was not willing to step in, in the event of Miliband stepping down. He told the Times: “For the avoidance of doubt, I have no intention of going back to frontline politics.”

However, one leader of the rebellion said he believed that this was not a categorical rejection, and that Labour MPs would be looking for any hope of a change of heart. "

Johnson said that any challenge to Miliband’s leadership would ruin Labour’s chance of winning next May, and he told any MPs who might be considering this to “get a grip”.

Johnson also said “For the avoidance of any doubt, I have no intention of going back to frontline politics, I support Ed Miliband, I’m a candidate at the next general election, so I’ve got an interest in it and I think it’s eminently winnable. Even if I was completely despondent — as I’m not — the law of political gravity is that you do not spend two or three months of a precious six-month period up to the general election having an internal fight about who the leader should be.”

This is delusional bollocks, who is feeding them this shit and why do they believe it?

The idea that AJ would be acceptable to the members is laughable, the idea that the parliamentary party can impose a candidate is equally laughable. But more than anything else the concept that AJ would make a PM or leader of the country is pathetic.

He has no charisma, he was the worst shadow chancellor in history. This isn't like the Tories and IDS this is a competitive election, why on earth would ambitious MPs place AJ on a pedestal as PM.

The Guardian has stopped allowing comments on these pieces, presumably because they don't want to see the huge flood of piss taking that would follow.

Can we tweet the twat who wrote it and ask him if he has been drinking?

Front page of the LAB-leaning Observer doesn't look good for Ed.
That strange whistling noise you can hear is not a firework, or a Cyberman ascending into the skies (damn that was good); no, it is the sound of the last fragment of Mike Smithson's credibility expiring in embarrassment. "Labour leaning Observer".

Name, shame, deselect.
That's what I think too.

On Twitter it was said the Chief whip had been asking for signatures to a resignation letter. Can't remember the name they said.
Also Danzuks [sp?] name is being bandied around because he's not put his name to any support for Ed.

Supposedly deputy chief whip Alan Campbell was trying to get signatures, I suspect Rosie winterton has had a gentle word with him since then.

Daniel Boffey who wrote something that was proven to be a complete lie last weekend *wracks brain trying but failing to remember what it was but remembers very clearly that he didn't respond to my tweet notifying him nor did he amend his article*

Tweet Smithson.

The story reads like it was made up down the pub. Johnson as leader? Risible.

Hi all

Never think of reading the Morning Star but that article seems to make sense, more than anything in the Graun......the mentality of Westminster must be interesting - I remember from my student union days there were always cliques and plots. Even now at work 'office politics' and rumors are rife.

It is, therefore, surprising that a so-called 'quality' paper would not see this for what it is!

All 3 party leaders have problems (Miliband not the most) but we also know that a coup needs a lot of support and planning to work - especially in a bureaucratic party like Labour.....

Rusbridger really is shit!

So Cameron and Osborne got away with the carefully worded 'only paying half' lie to the electorate then? What a great age of press we live in.

Ed Miliband in new crisis as senior Labour MPs back a leadership change

I mean, really?

" On Saturday, Johnson appeared to suggest he was not willing to step in, in the event of Miliband stepping down. He told the Times: “For the avoidance of doubt, I have no intention of going back to frontline politics.”

However, one leader of the rebellion said he believed that this was not a categorical rejection, and that Labour MPs would be looking for any hope of a change of heart. "
Jesus Christ.

Boffey is an out & out Blairite, and proud of that fact. Happy that Johnson has come out so quickly to shoot the story down.

Not surprised that comments aren't being allowed (at least not until tomorrow, when they can guarantee the astroturfing faithful will arrive en masse); interestingly the New Statesman have now deleted all comments under the Cowley article that started this bandwagon rolling.

It really scares me that people are so ready to swallow these lies. The Mail have run with a "Tristram Hunt not backing Ed" story (despite the fact that he has, and very publicly, this week) and Twitter is full of people taking it as gospel. :smack:
