@ScarletGas

Completely agree with your description of the 'debate' (my arse) so far. I too am hoping purdah brings some kind of settling down - or at least toning down the slanging match. I'm not sure true purdah is going to be observed though.

The Guardian view on the Land Registry sell-off: hands off this national asset
Editorial
"The Competition and Markets Authority – Britain’s main competition watchdog – took the unusual step this week of warning that selling
the Land Registry would give any new owner a monopoly on highly valuable information, with no incentive to allow others access to it.
This might mean that the 24m title deeds are removed from the freedom of information laws – and so the public would lose their right
to find out who owns the very land they live on."
This won't do.

More than half of all owner occupied homes in the UK are owned outright at this time.
They don't have age comparisons... I am thinking the outright owners might be older. Back in the day, you couldn't take out a mortgage that carried on past 65 years of age.
When we took out a joint mortgage with my parents and sister, the mortgage term was based was on my parents age and was only for fifteen years.

Our small circle of friends are now all mortgage free.
According to the data linked below, 95.6% of those owning their home outright are aged 45+

Osborne HUMILIATED by Brussels: EU 'drops' agreement to exempt UK from tampon tax

GEORGE Osborne has been humiliated by European Union (EU) bureaucrats who have dropped his supposed agreement to exempt Britain from the punishing tampon tax, it has been claimed.

A graduate whose letter to his MP went viral after it detailed how his student loan had grown by more than £1,800 in the year since he left university has said he and his contemporaries did not understand what they were signing up to when they took out the financing.
When I took out my small top-up student loan in 1993, the interest rate was inflation only, regardless of income and you only started paying back when you earned 80% of the national average wage, which is currently approx 21,760, so not far removed from the 21,000 threshold now. The extra 3% charged to higher earners is certainly new and difficult for those faced with it, but to be frank the student highlighting this is missing the point by focusing on the terms of the loan, which have not greatly changed, rather than the extortionate level of the tuition fee to begin with. No other country has universities that charge as much and so the deal is not good value for money from the off, even if you believe in the student loan system.

And Osborne has indicated fees will rise even further. No one knows if this kind of debt is in anyway feasible, it's not been done anywhere on this scale and with more graduates than graduate jobs, how much of this debt will eventually fall to the public purse?
