Baverstock Academy closure on again after second government U-turn

http://schoolsweek.co.uk/baverstock-aca ... nt-u-turn/
An academy told it would close down before a volte-face from the schools commissioner has now been informed it will likely be shut down after all.

Baverstock Academy, in Birmingham, was told by the government it could consult on closure, before this decision was reversed in October with the former West Midlands regional schools commissioner Pank Patel stating efforts to find a new sponsor had “progressed positively”.

But despite a vocal campaign from parents and Birmingham Selly Oak MP Steve McCabe, the government has now told the school it can close after all.
As the article goes on to say, and was the subject of an editorial last week, there is a real issue about some schools not being wanted by any sponsor.

It's the sort of question you would hope got asked before they started this massive reorganisation - "what do we do if x, y or z happens?" but obviously didn't.
Quite. "Brexit" writ small(er).

Funny that Lord Harris and ARK aren't speeding up the M40 to bring salvation, isn't it?

ARK in particular given they have 3 secondaries (+ 3 primaries) in Birmingham already.

This one sounds a bit odd since it was a converter in June 2013 despite having had two Grade 3s in a row. And according to one tweet I saw it was the DfE that forced them to convert...but then into a single academy trust which is why there's no MAT behind them.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

They need soldier-teachers.

The Mirror reckon that the Gove nonsense cost £4.3m for 69 teachers. Not that it's completely unknown for soldiers to become teachers. Sporty schools with cadet forces probably stick out a few feelers.
