THAT Andrea Leadsom, who wants to be prime minister, sounds like a total pain in the arse, it has been agreed.
In an interview with the leading Sunday newspaper for elderly xenophobes, Mrs Leadsom reveals that not only does she think she is the ‘new Thatcher’, but that she is also a ‘very committed Christian’.
Professor Henry Brubaker, from the Institute for Studies, said: “And she made a fortune working in the City. So she’s a greedy, sociopathic god-botherer. What an absolute fucking beezer of a combination.”
He added: “On behalf of the country, I just want to thank the Conservative Party for offering such a dazzling array of candidates.
“Two half-baked Thatcher clones, an evil woodland troll, a Welsh Christian homophobe with an untrustworthy beard and the creepiest man in politics since Norman Tebbit.
“The Conservative Party hates Britain. If you can’t see that you shouldn’t be allowed to use a knife and fork.”

That might also severely embarrass a few politicians which would be an excellent move.
In fact, Leave can't possibly object since their whole point was that parliament is sovereign. Well then here's their chance to prove it.
It's what I've been thinking from the start, but it looks almost as pie-in-the-sky written here by a much cleverer person than me, as it did in my head.

Still don't see why countries have to limit free movement, with respect to employment, should be able increase & enforce wage levels , any influx of workers would be either down to being more qualified, or more willing to do work for available wage.tinyclanger2 wrote:The European Union is to show its determination to make no concessions to the UK on Brexit terms by telling Switzerland it will lose access to the single market if it goes ahead with plans to impose controls on the free movement of EU citizens.

What's becoming clearer by the year is that there are two Englands. One cosmopolitan, open, economically mobile, the other conservative, looking to restore the Greatness in a Britain that will likely no longer survive.
So mutually opposed are these views, I don't see how we can do anything other than evolve into a federal state - ideally even pan European - where like-minded regions link. I'm with London, Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Leicester, Newcastle, Norwich, Cardiff, Brighton. Will miss Birmingham and Cornwall but what can you say.

Cornwall, for example, was due to receive a total of £2.5bn in funding from the EU between 2000-2020. It could now lose the final £400m tranche, which was to fund tourism, green energy and infrastructure projects. The previous £2.1bn of EU funds was used to improve the region's rail links, built community centres and brought £132m of super-fast broadband connections to the south-west. Despite this, the region voted 56.5% in favour of leaving.

Have to agree with the alcohol study.
Years ago I bought one of those metal bunk bed things with a sofa underneath.Used.
The seller,a farmer, delivered it by tractor. It was fully dismantled. No instructions.
After a hopeless and frustrating afternoon on the day we moved house,I gave up and glugged half a bottle of red.In despair,
Then I hopped upstairs and put the thing together in an hour.Alone.

"In practise we think it inevitable that the new PM would seek a Parliamentary assent given that the referendum is not legally binding. In our view, this is the crucial point wherein Brexit could be stopped, if it is to be blocked. Enough Conservative MPs (at this stage, we guess close to 20) would need to defy the leadership to prevent a motion from passing. This would likely generate a confidence vote and possibly a new general election if it occurs. Our base case is that Conservative MPs will fall in behind the leader and implement “the will of the people” as expressed in the referendum."

Trade is your thing, after all and here it was: full freedom of movement for capital, goods, services and people. Yes, for people, including for eastern Europeans, not long after the Berlin Wall came down. That happened because you British insisted on uniting the whole of Europe, the sooner, the better, while the French, the Italians and others all held back for as long as they could.

ironytasticOn 4 April 2000 Cameron was selected as prospective candidate (PPC) for Witney in Oxfordshire. This had been a safe Conservative seat but its sitting MP Shaun Woodward (who had worked with Cameron on the 1992 election campaign) had "crossed the floor" to join the Labour Party and was selected instead for the safe Labour seat of St Helens South.

Afternoon. Has been lovely, have been tidying up the rain damage in the garden, lots blown over.
Strange times. I find myself agreeing with Nick Clegg, there should be a general election before A50 is triggered.
Without being sexist, is there a female/male split on FTN ? Seems as if more women here want Brexit slowed/stopped/voted on again.
& Tiny Clanger, most importantly, have you prepared yourself for the rise in price of vermouth ?

(my emphasis)EU Referendum 2016
Media analysis from Loughborough University Centre for Research in Communication and Culture
27 June 2016 | ...
"Many issues that have received considerable media attention following the referendum, received negligible coverage before the vote.
For example, consideration of the devolution implications accounted for 0.8% of all coverage and taxation issues were covered even less,
accounting for 0.6%. Between Friday 24 June and Monday 27 June, the national press published 198 items mentioning Article 50 of the
Lisbon Treaty (which triggers the exit process). This represents a daily average of 49.5 items. Between 6 May and 23 June, they
published 88 items mentioning Article 50, a daily average of 1.8 items.
The dominance of Conservative party representatives, which we noted in our first report, was sustained throughout. The brief
upswing in Labour party representation noted last week, fell back in the last days of campaigning. The coverage was also highly
‘presidentialised’, dominated by the Conservative figure heads of the IN and OUT campaigns."

Re: sat 2 and sun 3 july in worst year for quite some time
(my emphasis)...individuals, organisations and institutions received most media coverage.
- Seven of the top ten people and half of all people in the top thirty are Conservative politicians.
In all, they account for 73% of the total number of appearances in the top thirty.
- The most frequently reported Labour politician was Jeremy Corbyn (7th).
Only ten Labour politicians made the top thirty.
They account for 15% of the total number of appearances in the top thirty.
- Pro-IN politicians in the top thirty commanded slightly more appearances than pro-OUT politicians (1176 to 1070)

Re: sat 2 and sun 3 july in worst year for quite some time
Interesting...
An Act which presumably has to have some debate beforehand. Given the numbers of MPs that said they would vote remain, that'll be fun...

I don't. For the same reason I object to the coup. A vote is a vote. The result whether we like it or not, is The result.yahyah wrote:Afternoon.

Happy to stand in as Shadow House Leader/Welsh Secretary et al but tweet request asking me to sub for Aaron Ramsey is a tad impractical.

City regulator's fines drop from £819m to £7m in a year
Fall in value and number of fines imposed by FCA due to personnel changes, a less aggressive approach and a heavy workload for staff
Fines imposed by the Financial Conduct Authority in the first half of 2016 have fallen more than 90% to £7.2m, the lowest half-year total since a regulatory clampdown during the financial crisis.
The plunge in fines from £819m in the same period last year follows a period of turbulence for the FCA and coincides with the arrival of Andrew Bailey from the Bank of England as the watchdog’s chief executive. The number of fines has also fallen, almost halving to 13 from 24 in the first half of last year. Eight of the fines, totalling £3.2m, resulted from an investigation into the failure of insurance schemes for law firms.
George Osborne forced out Martin Wheatley, the FCA’s previous chief executive, a year ago after the City complained about his tough approach to regulation. After the Conservatives won the May 2015 election, Osborne said he wanted a new settlement with the banking sector and an end to blaming them for the financial crisis.

Her one-year stint from 2014-15 at the Treasury as City minister was seen inside 1 Horseguards Road as “a disaster” by one official. “She was the worst minister we’ve ever had.” Unlike Ms May, she has also not held down a cabinet job.
Ms Leadsom’s allies say that Mr Osborne blocked her promotion to the cabinet and after the last election the chancellor asked for her to be moved out of the Treasury. She was transferred by David Cameron to the energy department.
“She found it difficult to understand issues or take decisions,” said another Treasury official. “She was monomaniacal, seeing the EU as the source of every problem. She alienated officials by continually complaining about poor drafting.”

This male wants it stopped. I haven't and won't change my mind.yahyah wrote:Afternoon. Has been lovely, have been tidying up the rain damage in the garden, lots blown over.

I wouldn't get in a car with a drunk driver - I'm not going along quietly with this. It's crazy. small majority or not.
It's a daft idea at the worst possible time. What ever happened to 'not putting the recovery in danger'.

Frank Field arrogantly admits his constituents views count for nothing and it’s not his job to speak up for them.
