Good. Shows just how poor Grayling was that Gove - of all people - is having to undo much of his dark work. Court charges are clearly poor and discriminatory policy - and as for the glorious Saudi Arabia prisons training contract that they've also now withdrawn from ... disastrous.

Gove undoing more of Grayling's 'work'.

I'd say it was a toss-up between Lansley and Grayling as to the most utterly useless cabinet minister of the past 5 years.

Gove at the DfE too - not useless but clueless and meddling.

Mr Riots has not taken his hat off for 3 days now (ghastly thing with ear flaps). He's just gone to bed still wearing it and clutching a hot water bottle.

According to The Times, Morgan has approved a new grammar school in Kent.

This is the one which is an extension - 8-9 miles away - of an existing school.

Judicial review maybe?

Gove, to his credit (and I can't believe how many times I've said this recently!) ruled against it but Kent kept plugging away until Morgan got there.

She's been sitting on this one since before the election.

Had a nagging feeling all day, I'd said something wrong, finally realised.

Oh dear, no wonder Osborne might not find the epithet 'The Iron Chancellor' quite to his liking – given the risk of history not repeating but circling to see him blown out of the water by a new Iron Lady...

Bit late at night for posting this so I'll try to remember to re-post it tomorrow:

Petition to George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Greg Clark, Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government:

Please don't let the Spending Review leave homeless people out in the cold. We are calling on you to:
protect the Homelessness Prevention Grant
allocate funding to councils according to need
monitor how the money is spent, to help make sure it is used effectively for what it is intended
https://community.crisis.org.uk/no-one- ... #widgetTop

I know I'm not the only one, here on FTN, who has ever been homeless - in my case, with a baby in-tow - and I know how lucky we are to have come through that time relatively unscathed. At the time (mid-ish 'seventies) council housing was still being built, there were fairly well-funded advice services like the CAB and Community Law Services, squatting was an option (I was lucky to fall in with some great people,) there were at least some council-run nurseries so I was able to work, and after nearly two years (and a blessedly short time in a truly foul B&B for the homeless) we were housed by the Council. I want both young and old to have at least the same support and chance of permanent social housing that I had; and there is much that has been lost and needs reinstated. But I'd be grateful if you'd sign Crisis' No-one Turned Away petition to protect the HPG - and encourage others to do the same. It's only a little, it's only first-steps - but to those it helps, it's everything.
