Interesting how little coverage Corbyn's support for pulling back NATO got today.
Just doesn't matter what he says. Not newsworthy.

Is UK government capable of taking the UK out of the EU? I mean the actual work involved regardless of party or persuasion.

To be honest I see little value in the BBC today - and haven't for some years. I never thought I would hear myself think it, but it really isn't fit for purpose as a public broadcaster.JonnyT1234 wrote:Marine Le Pen isn’t the problem – the BBC panders to the right on a daily basis - the guardian

A lot of truth to that. And you can apply it to almost every public institution the Tories are gradually grinding down. From the NHS to our libraries to our museums and galleries through to our schools. The current royal charter expires on 31 December and the latest renewal process was a tense period for friends of the BBC. Initially, horror stories abounded: would Britain lose a cherished cultural institution and a much-valued bulwark against the crass commercialism and unabashed propagandising of the private news media?
The truth is that the real threat to the BBC has never been from a sudden liquidation, but rather the gradual erosion of the values it claims to uphold. When it comes to independence, always something of a myth given the power governments wield over the BBC on funding, appointments and the charter itself, there are serious concerns over the planned “unitary board” that will for the first time involve government appointees in the day-to-day running.

The wording of the article made it sound more like concessions were being offered, rather than won, but without details of what they would be or any cost.Willow904 wrote:@tinybgoat
Although such a compromise certainly sounds promising, I remain concerned as to what happens if the UK can't win any concessions on free movement. If the advantages of remaining in the single market aren't articulated clearly, the public won't put pressure on the government to stay in and if attempts at reforming free movement fail, May's government may be tempted to put the interests of the party and retaining it's Eurosceptic, Ukip leaning votes over the best interests of the country as a whole. Even if May's government do go for the single market option, the country will remain deeply divided unless the case for staying in is loudly and convincingly made.
My (probably naive) belief was that the opposition's approach for putting pressure on the government needed to be on the lines of supporting the outcome of the vote, but pointing out the promises made in the brexit campaign aren't being met, ie; the government is betraying the peoples 'will', by following a hard brexit, likely to damage economy & fail to deliver new markets, money for NHS etc.
I'm not sure if there's enough time for that approach, and it would also rely on getting the Government to actually reveal what there supposed plan was, so probably as you say the biggest question is what the majority of Tories want, & how the press behaves.
The countries been deeply divided for years & the Government hasn't been that bothered. A number of leave voters seemed to be of the opinion that we'd already left the EU as soon as the result was announced, and now their main concern is article 50 being invoke. I suspect the Gvt. could get away with staying in the single market with some changes to freedom of movement, spinning the news & emphasising that we've left the eu & taken back control. etc.
Suppose the flaws with this (as usual) are UKIP, The Tories & the press.
(sorry for delay in replying, got waylaid by roast chicken & then android phone misbehaving)

From the airline post above
"The UK already operates within the ECAA via its EU membership, but re-entering the single market on its own would require the UK to accept EU aviation laws and potentially those around the free movement of people, an unpalatable compromise which many argue is counter to the wishes of those who backed Brexit.
Ryanair’s O’Leary warns that it is “highly unlikely” that the UK will be allowed to remain in the so-called Open Skies agreement. Last week he slammed the UK’s leave negotiations as being in an “utter mess” and accused Brexit Secretary David Davis and Boris Johnson of “sitting on their hands with no cards to play”. "
If we are out of the Open Skies agreement why are we spending all that dosh on a runway that we won't be using so much?

Trying to work out what is the most offensive aspect of this story:
(a) excising a WWII veteran from the photos to score a cheap political point on Remembrance Sunday
(b) the appallingly bad photoshopping that's blindingly obvious in the pictures (the lines on the wall don't align on the left and right, the really bad patch job around Corbyn's right arm and hand in particular)
(c) the Sun and Mail being gullible enough to fall for the appallingly shoddy photoshopping
(d) the Sun and Mail not being gullible enough to fall for the appallingly shoddy photoshopping yet running their stories anyway.
