Yes, it was the article in the DT.

Good to see that we're still all in this together...

Okay, hats off to Teresa May; this is a brave speech to make when those on the right of your party are hanging their hats on shoogly pegs. Guidos people must be up in arms:
This hateful ideology has nothing to do with Islam itself. And it is rejected by the overwhelming majority of Muslims in Britain and around the world. The Quran says: “O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other.” It says: “let there be no compulsion in religion.” So let the message go out from this hall that the extremists will never succeed in dividing us. Let the message go out that we know Islam is a religion of peace and it has nothing to do with the ideology of our enemies. Let us stand side by side with the British Muslims who are coming together and saying “not in my name”.

A heartfelt article for John Wight on the Huff. Don't recognise the name but have to agree with the sentiment.

For the sake of humanity society must unleash war on the Tories:

http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/john-wi ... 57888.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

On the prepaid card thing, the Red Cross have condemned the Azure card for asylum seekers, can't see any other version not having the same problems. People are having to trek miles by foot to find the supermarkets that take them, there's no allocation for travel, and few people are managing three meals a day. It sounds as though you can top up gas and electricity, though again the outlets that will do this are few and far between. You cannot carry over more than five pounds in a week so things like shoes become un obtainable, without cash you can't even buy at charity shops. The unsaid things, such as how do you access personal non food items, or winter coats, warm waterproof shoes for winter, even things like bedding, seemed absent from discussion. If there were substantial numbers of people living like this then only one conclusion can be drawn, such people would have to beg, either from the charities or in public. It looks very much as if they will use those with addictions as a kind of pilot, it was already suggested a couple of years ago for wider use. The Huff article suggests urgency is needed but doesn't give that many ideas on how you unleash war peacefully, can only think that wider participation is the only way forward, but who knows which way the non-voting public would cast their ballots.....

Edited to correct autocorrect garble.

The Prepaid Cards idea is ridiculous and assumes that these "feral people" live isolated lives where they never know anyone who's not on benefits.

In practice, what will happen is that they'll either:

1. Go shopping with someone who doesn't have a card and buy their shopping for them in exchange for cash

2. Buy more than they need from the supermarket and then try to sell it door to door (like Ocado for the poor)

3. Steal the cash they need.

Another schools which converted to academy status in Sep 2012 has gone into special measures today.

The Matthew Arnold School in Surrey which was graded as Satisfactory last time it was inspected (now the same grade would get you a requires Improvement).

Let become a converter academy i.e. stand-alone in September 2012.

Re-inspected in July and has gone into special measures today with an Inadequate rating.

Apparently it will be taken over by a multi-academy trust next term.

Wonder if we'll ever find out who allowed them to become a stand-alone academy when they were only a Satisfactory school?

They have the same sort of scheme in Australia only I think theirs is more sophisticated than anything George Smith and the twats at the DWP could dream up.
Even so from what I've read, it's not exactly working well.

I posted the link a little earlier today. It makes interesting reading, and I suspect like all of George's schemes is going to be a dismal failure whilst the children still suffer.

Hi DHP. Soon it really will be an echo chamber over there.

Speaking of "over there".
We have no media willing to take on the triumph of greed. The most “left wing” of British newspapers, the Guardian, pays its editor total remuneration of over half a million per year and “star” columnists 300,000, while exploiting interns and junior staff, and squandering 35 million pounds a year of C P Scott’s great endowment in losses – straight into its senior staff’s pockets.
Craig Murray's take on Osborne and Wally Smith's latest attack on "the undeserving poor", complete with that lovely swipe at the dear ol' Graun.

Ah yes, those freedoms...
The school has used its freedom as an academy to create a separate curriculum in Key Stage 4 for less able students. However, the restricted choice of courses provided for these students does not interest them sufficiently. The teachers delivering the courses do not give enough attention to meeting the students’ learning needs
That went well...

Of local interest only, but another fine old building being left to rot, so eventually its owners can demolish and have prim building land?
Sir Richard Leese, Leader of Manchester City Council, said: “London Road Fire Station is a wonderful landmark building with the potential to make a significant contribution to the regeneration of the Piccadilly area. “But over more than a quarter of a century, it has been allowed to blight this part of the city centre instead. The building’s current owners have presided over its deterioration and disuse. Despite making public commitments to bring it back into use, they have so far failed to demonstrate any genuine intention to do so. In this case, their inaction speaks louder than words. “We are giving them one last chance but they need to act quickly to take it. The people of Manchester have waited long enough for this fine heritage building to be brought back to life, and we will do everything in our power to make sure this happens.” - See more at: http://citycentrelabour.org.uk/mcc-laun ... We have no idea how wide the dragnet will be for those coming under the addiction label will be. The term feral people has been used to describe everything from single mums with big tellies, to homeless people who have been trafficked. Not all people with addiction issues look or behave the same, and like any other condition they have better times, worse times and sometimes recovering times. They can be any age or class. Sometimes people with no addiction at all get labelled as drunk because they have movement disorders or epilepsy, with a system in so much chaos we have no way of knowing whether semi-trained pseudo medical people will wrongly identify people as being addicts, or even whether there will be quotas to get onto such cards. Where they have been used they are a disaster for the people forced to use them. Still people elected governments in that use them. The Azure card is used here for all migrants who wind up here without work or work permits, mostly asylum seekers, refugees and trafficked people, it includes those with children. It is worth about thirty quid a week. It's not seen as ridiculous for them, so it's hard to dismiss the possibility they would be introduced for wider use.

It is now owned by Britannia hotels who own the Adelphi Hotel in Liverpool and bought Pontin's holiday camps and made them worse than they originally were. Frequently featured on Watchdog on the BBC!

Whooo...Mr Ohso and I have just had a nasty shock.

Had the car MoTd and front brakes replaced towards the end of July. Haven't been out and about in it much but have been on the mootorway a few times.
Yesterday we were on our way to do some shopping. Funny flapping thumping noise from front of car, but nothing obvious, and Mr Ohso can't get down to check the lower regions. Drove carefully home, called in a local mobile mechanic and all the wheel nuts were loose. He unscrewed the locking nut on the left front wheel with his fingers! The wheel was about to fall off. The other three wheels were loose as well.
That made our tickers thump for a minute.
So, we've just been on to Trading Standards...

Crikey! I'm amazed how relatively often that sort of thing happens. On the one hand a lucky escape. On the other, something that you should never have needed to escape from.
We were on a fast stretch of open road. If we hadn't stopped when we did, chances are we'd have ended up down a steep embankment and straight into thick pine forest.

Evidently not our time to go....

I am becoming totally gobsmacked at the sheer lies being peddaled at the Tory conference this year.

For Hunt to claim the Tories were for forming the NHS is such a bare faced lie that I wonder how he has the gall to stand on a stage and get his mouth round the words. Redwoods threats yesterday. What's next. Book burning?

And there are Tories out there that are perfectly happy to go along with the lies. How could they. How fucking could they!

Presumably if Churchill was so instrumental in the NHS he can also take credit for the Welfare State?
Churchill's opposition voted 21 times against the NHS Bill including second and third readings. Thats not just revisionism thats outright blatant falsehood. The media need to call him up on it.

Im starting to hope UKIP do pull another tory out of the hat just to wipe the smug grins off their faces.

I thought I'd give watching Jeremy Hunt a swerve and I'm glad I did. There's only so much a person can take. Maybe I'll catch him on an action re-play later. I'm lucky like that . . .

Sat here nodding vigorously. What's the betting that no-one in any media organisation takes the twat to task for his lies? And, yes, I do hope there's another high vis defection to UKIP from the Tories first thing tomorrow just to fuck their day up.

Even Isabel Hardman described Hunt's speech as ''audacious'' where I come from we would use more basic language, I'd describe it as lies.

Can we also make the case that Churchill was a shit peace time PM, glossed over by history?

I missed Lord Ashcroft on LBC by about 10 minutes. More tellingly the subject matter after the interview is asking folk who should succeed Cameron...
