It was completely the wrong thing to say at that moment, and - again - he had previously agreed with Starmer not to say it.

But evidently the adulation of his fan club ultimately counted for more.

Sorry to be so conciliatory, but it’s Boxing Day, I’m still isolating with Covid (still testing positive) and can’t really handle an argument!

That is fair comment perhaps, and maybe even more so that Starmer took the wrong lessons from it.

But the fact remains that after being almost an object of ridicule for nearly everybody (myself included) back in the spring, SKS is now in a pretty good position - its easy to say that is just down to the Tories (and to a large degree it is) but perhaps it also shows that he has, after all, acquired some political skills?
