Quoting what AS quoted JC as saying! And yes, it's a good turn of phrase.

But I'm sure Corbyn's going to do better and deliver lower fares as well, all by renationalizing.

I said before I don't think he's intending to fight a general election. Provided he does some of the hard costing first, that could work very well. I fear though that he'll leave some poor sap having to do all that, and cop the usual "betrayal" bollocks.

I see Gove drew the short straw for the "OK, let's get the soundbite out of the way then"
Labour have confirmed that they are a threat to our national security, our economic security and to the security of every family in Britain.
Utterly pitiful.

If I was at conference I'd get all of these and stick them up on a presentation one by one to show their contempt for people's intelligence.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

But his recent utterances seem placatory, hope he lives up to them.
I don't have a problem with Hunt's social class or his name - mostly that he was such an appalling opposite to Michael Gove.
He wasn't appalling.

He could legitimately say he had a core of popular and practical policies that Miliband didn't really feature in the broader campaign.

Great, taking the fight to the Tories on so many levels.

He's got the intellect, the fire, the leadership qualities, the humanity, the resilience and the humour to take us into 2020 and win.

Anyone who wants him to fail should consider whether they really are a Labour supporter.

Brown had an intellect way superior to Corbyn's. See Simon Wren-Lewis (one of Corbyn's wise men). No politician has sought out and heeded expert economic advice more than Brown.

Corbyn's exaggerated the problems with Brown's performance (Brown didn't bring us to "the edge of the abyss") and given him virtually no credit for the performance of the economy.

Did you even bother to watch it Tubby, honestly ?

It is about more than intellect, Brown could have been God of the Intellectual Universe but he couldn't fire people up, couldn't really put forward a vision. I was a Brown fan until he became PM.
No one can fault some of his interventions after the crash.

I just feel so frustrated, so will not hang around to bicker and deal with other's negativity.

It feels like a good day for our democracy, and for those who need a party clearly fighting for them.

Agree about intellect being overrated for leaders, just thought it an odd thing to pick up with Corbyn. I don't think he's even thought of himself as a particularly intellectual politician, apart from on foreign policy maybe. I don't find his performance on stuff I know about particularly deeply thought out.

But I think he's the right person for the job now, which I didn't before, and I give him credit for that.

That is at least enough to be going on with.

I didn't watch it but read enough to get the gist.

Given that we're over four years away from the election, I'm relaxed about the "only speaking to his party" question - there's plenty of time for them to take it to voters. He needs to convince the party first.

Gove trotting out the party line makes me think that they really don't know how to counter him yet - that party line looks awfully like what Corbyn was complaining about and they should use that to reinforce the "honest politics" message.

My objection to him was that government's a lot harder than he thinks.

When you basically "run against the party", as he did, albeit in a very genial way, you store up problems.

There’s an investment crisis.

Britain at the bottom of the international league on investment.

Just below Madagascar and just above El Salvador.
Madagascar is a classic example of the short-sightedness of failing to invest. Failure to maintain and develop the road infrastructure left by the French has lead their economy to virtually collapse. This is a shocking statistic. How does Osborne hope to get away with such poor economic management?

I rather like the following extract as well. It demonstrates the benefits of a long memory and ties in directly to the attitude towards the arms industry of our current PM. A reminder of the long tradition of hawking arms to dodgy regimes by our Tory leaders is well overdue.
And on foreign policy we need to learn the lessons of the recent past.

It didn’t help our national security that, at the same time I was protesting outside the Iraqi Embassy about Saddam Hussein’s brutality, Tory ministers were secretly conniving with illegal arms sales to his regime.

Damian McBride @DPMcBride

All you ever want is the speech reported straight. The nightmare is an unforeseen external fuckarama, and plagiarism is as bad as it gets.
6:16 PM - 29 Sep 2015 (Politics Live, Guardian)
Then, a few minutes later:
Damian McBride @DPMcBride

If that's right @wifimarxist, then phew, and that might kill it. The fact it wasn't used by Ed M isn't great but could be made a positive.
6:21 PM - 29 Sep 2015 (Politics Live, Guardian)
All Damian O'Bride[sic] had to do was check the latest news on this story before firing off his first effort. (The story was on the Guardian website at least as early (in fact, earlier) as 6.06pm, for God's sake.)

I thought he was supposed to be some sort of wiseacres in this area.

There's also a very simple, though party political, response on investment.

Labour pre 2001 had IIRC the lowest public investment of any government. Sure, they improved considerably on that later and in 2009 had the most investment since 1975. But that very austere first Labour term was a bit of a hostage to fortune as far as investment is concerned.
