John Woodcock isn't happy:
''If you are buried so deep in the bunker that you think the Guardian, Mirror, New Statesman and Channel 4 News are part of a right wing conspiracy to get you, you clearly have no intention of trying to get broad support from the wider public.

It made me laugh PF. I thought 'PF's on good form'.
But then I am in a gentle state of hysteria at the moment, finding that laughing at the silliness of it all is the best way forward.

Based on my reasonably frequent visits to HuffPo I would say that they are always keen to run stories denoucing him, however flimsy the sources are.
It's also quite rare to see any stories in support of him there, or if they are, they are slanted in a way that allow them to deride him in some way at the same time.
Guardian: enough said
Don't have a feel for the other two.

It's puerile to refuse hustings events on the basis that these, usually slammed as being leftwing, papers might have been critical of him.
How does he think Labour's message will hit the masses if, god forbid, he's leader in 2020 ?!

It is a shame, because those are the hustings that would have been interesting to hear about.

That's what's worrying PK.
The massive elephant in the room is the public's perception of Corbyn.
Hard to see him recovering from that. Sticking heads in the sand about it won't change matters.
Recent polling was dire. Notice no one has wanted to discuss it.
Very sad. Fortunately my household is comfortable, good regular income, savings, no mortgage and no debt.
We can survive without a Labour government. Many can't.
Just don't fancy spending the last decades of my life under Tory rule, watching others suffer.
and don't bother having a go at me anyone, it is my opinion.

Don't you feel the recent dire polling might have a teeny bit to do with the PLP's antics? Am I expected to reward their appalling behaviour?

No one wants to discuss recent polling because (1) it is even more meaningless than ever - Jesus Christ could be leader and the figures would still be in the toilet under these circumstances - and (2) what's the point? It's impossible to know whether the figures are due to people's perception of Corbyn, of the PLP, of Smith, of the membership or just the general impression that Labour are completely and utterly crap irrespective of who's leading them.
You're just going to have to face reality. No matter what happens next, the only way Labour will be in power in 2020 now is if the Tories lose the election by ballsing everything up, not because Labour did something to win it.
If anything, I'd take some encouragement that there are still some people at all who are actually willing to vote Labour.

No one is expecting you to do anything FO.
It is a false dichotomy, in my view, to regard it in terms of 'rewarding' the PLP.
It isn't about punishing or rewarding.
This isn't some cosy infighting down the social club or quiz night.
This is about having an effective party, with good, strong, fair policies that involves some compromise, and showing voters the Labour leader could make an effective PM.
It ain't about the PLP - it is about the people in this country who need a Labour government.
Still, what is the point. There's this embattled PLP/Corbynite war to be won.
Winning the battle is what is important. The war against the Tories has been forgotten.
I cannot vote for Corbyn again as he has shown no sign of admitting he may not be coping with the job, or how he would do it differently if he wins again.
Yes, he's brilliant at speaking to crowds, but so is Trump. It means little to be able to enthuse those already on your side.
I remember feeling great listening to his first conference speech, wishing him to do well, enthused and thinking - maybe he can do it. The track played at the end 'Working on a Building of Love' by Chairman of the Board was brilliant. My husband and I danced to it, both enthusiastic about things changing.
Where's that love that was to be built ?

I've not changed my opinion about polls. They're unreliable. My trust in polls was betrayed in May 2015. I agree Corbyn should do the debates.ephemerid wrote:1. Is John Woodcock ever happy?

Polls.
They proved unreliable in 2015 because they overestimated Labour support. Looking at the raw data, the adjustments to correct for this have so far been small.
At this point in the electoral cycle polling on leadership and the economy are usually thought better than the headline rate. Labour has been doing badly.
Labour was doing poorly prior to the leadership challenge.
If something isn't working try something else. Nobody likes admitting a mistake.

I don't mind admitting or acknowledging my wrong at all. It's essential for me to know if and when I'm wrong in order to stop wrong, fix wrong (if possible), and proceed correct in word and action.SpinningHugo wrote:Polls.

I know Labour is doing poorly, before and after late June 2016. Labour isn't doing well now. Sometimes I don't need to know how crap my political party as a single entity is doing. Don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows. Labour is in a crisis.
I'm wary of polls. My guess is apathy generation was intentionally cultivated in the 2015 GE and polling data likely persuaded too many to not bother voting. Less than 67% of the UK electorate on the electoral register showed up to vote. That thin, little percentage voter turnout even after a couple million had been tossed off the electoral register! I think complacency was involved in many voters sitting the GE out. If people had known Labour might not be returned to government, they'd likely have made greater effort to vote and do a lot more to help others vote too. Anyway, the 2015 GE is history and I can't change it. I can only learn as much as I can to prevent terrible things happening in the future.
