I'm starting a new board, Nesting Flies, where the participants will do nothing but endlessly 'discuss' how the splitting of Fly the Nest is the only way things will work in the future. Discussion of the Labour Party is verboten. Who's joining me.

People are leaving the board, and ohso is not the first, due to certain people. I wouldn't as I think there is an argument to be had

No all happy together slapping each other on the back and declaring others are wrong to call them bullies.....and seeming to base it all on opposing Corbyn

There are plenty on here who do not support, or support reluctantly, Corbyn

I wouldn't call you bullies, I would be far less polite

Instead of all this irrelevant nonsense you like to post and snidey comments, perhaps you can start discussing things of substance - something that is severely lacking in your posts

It is not often that I would like to see Spinning Hugo come along but his contribution would be far more value adding

All pk1 has done is come along on one of her infrequent visits, tell us the board is full of crap without actually saying anything of interest
And all you have done today is attack others for having their own opinions. I'm doing something I have never done on this site before & that's blocking you. You have nothing to say that is of any interest to me.

I am sure I can get Tizme to post pro- caroline lucas for leader stuff, and I can come up with anti Jonathan Bartley for leader stuff if it would add to board diversity?

I think if you look through my history of posts today, I think you will find most of them have been discussing Khan's statement, I asked about a comment Jowell made on the Olympics and Brexit as well as numerous posts on the leadership campaign (perhaps not a wise subject but was challenging some, in my view, weak comments)

You though have just come on, accused the board of being full of crap and then with yahyah managed to avoid talking politics and making various snide comments

I have not been innocent and have childishly responded but I think you and some of your friends should seriously think about what benefit you get from being on here

It is not a Corbyn echo chamber by any means, and I think you will find many of us who will vote for him are also critical of him but try to explain why we support him

Others support Smith and that is okay by me and I will be happy to discuss with them, knowing it is unlikely we will change each others minds at the stage

I fail to understand though what some of you hope to gain by coming on here and just ranting the same things about Corbyn but then not wanting to engage with those that disagree - it is probably that most labour members will support Corbyn as will be shown in September which is why it must be frustrating to those who oppose him.

That is probably the same here

I don't really care if you block me as you have not written anything of interest today, or for a long time.

Saw a guy from Napalm Death interviewed recently (was at an exhibition of rock in Walsall) - looked like a middle-aged school teacher with glasses

Wonder how he explains being in the epitome of a Thrash Metal band!

You'll just have to imagine this being sung as you watch:
You'll seek it, it'll take a while
You'll seek this, if it's a thousand miles
Take what fate brings, eternal and desire
I'll change those faces, then I take their smile

We're getting close to you, I can see the door
Closer and closer, or is it there at all

Forever remain, forever remain

Well done.

Bloody well done.

All of you.

In 1936, Dale Carnegie published "How to win friends and influence people".

Perhaps some of you should read it.

howsillyofme - sending you a PM.

The rest - I'm taking another break. Just for once, it's not SH's shenanigans that have led to it. pk1 and yahyah - very disappointing.

ok - not sure if messages are getting through at moment though, or being sent

I am now stopping this non-value adding debate with other posters and apologise to all others on here.....I would have preferred to continue the interesting debates from this morning!

No, you don't.

But some could look at how they have been lately and have a little think about it.

It seems to me that what's going on out there in the big bad world is affecting us all, and on this board at times there seems to be a collective madness - people accusing each other of insulting them, other people being so sensitive to the slightest perceived criticism that they're blocking this person or putting another on their foes list.....it's ridiculous.

There are those who appear to feel they're "more labour" than others; those who see any question or comment as a personal slight; and I can understand why someone saying that what is posted here is crap caused offence. I've had my issues with one particular poster here as you all know - but I didn't think I'd be taking a break due to the comments I've seen today from people I had respect for.

When people like Ohso feel the need to leave because they are no longer among friends, it's a sad day for this forum. She's not alone.

If the future of Labour depends on voters such as yourself you're welcome to it. And God help the country.
That would be a shame, Ohso. Can't you just tune out or ignore posts you find offensive? After 33 years teaching in inner city secondary schools, I'm immune to critical comments and irritating people. In truth, I think everyone who posts on this site has something to say, even the tinkers who are trying to stir things up.
Which 'tinkers' are those ? ;) People you disagree with by any chance.?
Who is a 'tinker' will depend on how you see things.
One person's freedom fighter is another's terrorist.
But hats off to you - a lifetime in teaching deserves respect.
Actually, I was primarily thinking of Old Rusty and Wor Hugo. A pair of teasers, but often thought provoking an sometimes funny. And thanks for the congrats - thank god I'm out of the game now, the last few years have been awful in teaching.

Hi all,

I've just got back from holiday where I had no wi-fi (expected) and appalling mobile reception (not expected), so I've had a complete break from politics which has been rather nice. Caught some of the Olympics on a tiny telly, but next to no news and it's been very restful I have to say (apart from seeing some lions at a zoo, which was a little bit close for comfort tbh!). Just dropping in to say hi, really, as I have nothing interesting to add on the politics front at the moment. What with parliament being on recess and all, it's dead quiet, isn't it? Not sure that's a good thing with the Tories in charge. What are they up to, I wonder......

If the answer is actually "nothing" then that is a good thing with the Tories in charge. But your suspicions are more than likely merited.

"Old Rusty" is neither thought provoking nor funny - just a tiresome right wing WUM who delights in seeing divisions on here and taking screenshots for his and his equally rabid chum's amusement.

Boris is in charge? [Gulp]

That's up there with the lions.

As for the sports people "heroes" thing, not really been following, but isn't it rather American to venerate sports dudes. Or am I just being hyper paranoid about the Tories wanting to turn us into a mini-America free-market-free-for-all-dog-eat-dog-dystopian-nightmare of a country.

Indeed. Which is why cja and I had a personal chat about similar things the other day.

I stand by my view that there is seems to be a collective madness going on and some people are being hurt by it.

Boris Johnson is currently in charge of the country. Yes. WTF indeed. And some amazingly honest athletes/drug-taking cheats (delete as applicable in 5 years time) are currently being hailed as heroes by everyone trying to fall within the glow of their success.

I am glad for those who win, the obviously work hard to get to the peak but the 'hero worship' is a bit off putting I think but it is definitely not acceptable to say that in public

I also think we do well because of the focus on elite sport....those who will not win a medal or in sports that do not meet the criteria are treated really poorly - and at the same time we see record medals we also see poorer grass roots participation

The medal winning is the result of ruthless targetting

I find it all ineffably boring - although I admire sportspeople's determination and I don't begrudge them their moment in the sun. I just don't watch it or, until now when it's near enough over, comment on it.

Edited to add -

Although I could go on about how the money could be better spent, why it's even necessary to spend so much, the immorality of a lot of the surrounding stuff etc etc

Given that shooting and archery are included, you do have to ask, why not darts?

Personally, I may start getting excited once the Paralympics begin. I've only really found Fiji winning at the sevens, Japan beating New Zealand in the same sport, and the gymnastics (which is difficult to cheat at beyond strength building and stamina, but they're only one component of the skill) have caught me this time around. I just can't get beyond a sense of, "drug-cheat or not?" when watching.

Well up to a point - I wouldn't say that track and field, swimming or even cycling are 'elite sports' exactly - certainly there are elite sportsmen and women who as you say have to perform otherwise they lose their funding. That happened to gymnastics some years back but now look.

The problem is that funding for school sports etc has been squeezed as well as the time available for them. That's where the Olympic legacy bit falls down. Schools are being asked to do more and more but with less time and less money. gte it right in schools and slowly over time participation rates increase.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.
