Why is Wikileaks trying to help Trump win? Wouldn't a better time to reveal anything they had on Clinton be when the Democrats still had time to select someone else for their nominee? Exposing wrong doing is usually a good thing, but when it jeopardizes the survival of rational democratic government a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

Just because they're not droning gone about Brexit every day (important thought it is) does not make them ineffective.

I read somewhere that imported tech parts are already up 25% on pre-Brexit because of the slide in the pound. I don't know how accurate that is, but certainly the retail price of computers has seen some sharp upward hikes recently (one my husband was looking at went up 150 pounds in a couple of months (why doesn't my tablet keyboard have a pound sign?!)). Anyway, if this is a sign of things to come, it doesn't look good for people already struggling on stagnating wages.

Quite wrong.

There is a parliamentary majority that could be mustered against Hard Brexit. There are plenty of Osborne Tories who have enough sense to know that we need to stay in the single market.

Why aren't we?

Because Corbyn and McDonnell don't want us to be members of the Single Market. they prefer to talk about 'access' to it, and how we need to protect workers rights.

This is a disaster.

And did you not notice last week how I kept on praising Corbyn's stance on immigration (and criticising Reeves, Umunna etc). When he is right he is right.

On Brexit, he and Labour are indeed both silent and irrelevant. The tragedy is that they need not be.

If I recall correctly, Corbyn's call to trigger art 50 immediately was what led to the leadership challenge in the first place.

Still, he must be tired poor chap after all those invigorating rallies.

[For the avoidance of doubt, the prime blame lies with the government, not with the opposition in failing to oppose.]

The world wouldn't crumble. The Tories would still be stuffing it up. And we could have talked about something else that's important to folk here.

Not saying we shouldn't discuss Brexit. just that it would be OK not to. Just a thought....

That there's no point training extra doctors if you continue to allow Jeremy Hunt to chase them all away to better jobs abroad with the imposition of crappy contracts that don't allow doctors to have a life.

Four years post-training with the NHS isn't long enough to make much difference. Many could still be better off even if they have to pay back some fees if they can get more money abroad. Much simpler to improve retention of current doctors by funding the NHS adequately and offering decent pay and conditions. It's about work/life balance for many doctors rather than outright pay. Only the announcement of a proper rise in NHS funding to match the rise in population and, in particular the rise in the population of elderly people, will improve retention I think, and even then any curbs on immigration is going to pose huge problems for the NHS because so many vacancies are currently filled by people from abroad. For instance my lovely Spanish dentist is due to return home soon, so I'll be interested to see how easily he is replaced at my local surgery. Starting training extra dentists now isn't going to fill that vacancy by the end of the year and unlike doctors I'm not sure they could even use any kind of retention clauses in dentistry because it's contracted in from private practice, isn't it?

So, to sum up, stay in the single market, keep free movement of people and stop thinking the grass is greener elsewhere would be my message to the Tory government. But then I like a lot of the people I meet that have come from abroad and don't particularly "want my country back" because, rather like the native Americans, I've never really seen it as "my" country in the first place. Who am I to tell people where they should live? It's a free world, or at least should be, and nationalism gets in the way of simple ideas like the fact that there really is no reason why everyone shouldn't be able to enjoy a decent quality of life within the resources we globally have.

The prison service already is, and has always been, full of ex-forces. This is not a bad thing at all, and it's not a bad thing to encourage more, but it's hardly news. And generally speaking when governments go out of their way to focus on ex-forces recruitment in a particular area - (education particularly) nothing terribly useful comes of it.

I presume it is Assange related. Tories are bad but libertarians seem to operate outside any sense of morals.
