Brexit: UK 'needs wholesale reform' so each region can get its own a la carte deal, Gordon Brown says

British nations should be further devolved so that they can get their own deals with the EU, Gordon Brown has said after the Brexit legal challenge.

I doubt we differ by much. I'd rate it somewhere between 0 and 10%. With the likelier chance being closer to zero than 10%. But we still have to try. 1 in 100 can still happen.

British Library explores 20th century maps in new exhibition

A Soviet plan of Brighton, Tolkien’s Middle-earth and a Guardian spoof are part of Maps and the 20th Century: Drawing the Line

There is much that will stop visitors in their tracks, from the funny to the chilling, and the Brighton map could be a bit of both. “It is incredibly interesting because it is so detailed,” said the show’s lead curator, Tom Harper. “It shows individual houses … it is a wonderful thing. The existence of this map does not mean that the Soviet Union was going to invade Brighton. It is military intelligence – it is just in case.”(Guardian)
Sounds wonderful - but I think maps are fascinating things.

“Just when you think our country cannot get any more bonkers we discover that all the people who have been bleating about parliamentary sovereignty for the whole of 2016 don’t know what it means. These ludicrous belches about sovereignty and control [have been] coming from people who actually don’t know what it means.”

We were doing exactly the same thing as the soviets - I had a tour of the Mapping and Charting Establishment at Feltham (oh, the glamour!) when I was a student in the early 90's and they showed us some of the types of material they used to build their intelligence. Much of it was pretty basic, including visitor maps of obscure Chinese cities, sent back in diplomatic bags from around the world.

Published images of May have her mouth wide open. Remember all those pictures of Dave with his lips pursed shut? Like he'd neglected to put his teeth in?

The state of this...

Article 50: down with this legal coup against the masses

http://www.spiked-online.com/newsite/ar ... Bu53vT0fYS
The majority calmly discussed the EU, made a decision, and voted against it. And yet they’ve been ceaselessly defamed as ‘low information’ and ‘racist’ and have watched as their decision has been undermined and held up and relentlessly delegitimised by academics, lawmen and politicians. What must we do to make ourselves heard? To be taken seriously? If the ballot box doesn’t work, maybe it’s time for the streets?

I picked this up from it being tweeted by Joanna Williams - another Spiked writer who thought it "Excellent". Fancy...

Really do not trust the whole Spiked, Institute of Ideas crowd.

I notice that the right wing press are taking today's decision by the courts as calmly as one might expect.

DM - "Enemies of the People"
"Express "Three judges yesterday blocked Brexit"
DT - "The judges versus the people"

"We like the rule of law. And Parliamentary sovereignty. Apart from when we don't."

Oh, and there's papers saying that May will call a snap election.

Which she can't.

Do newspapers employ anyone with any legal background now or are they being deliberately dim?

News Release: Churches say Benefit Cap is “damaging” and overwhelmingly targets families with children

Today’s statistics revealed that only 14% of families capped were unemployed and claiming Jobseekers Allowance. The same number of families received benefit because they were assessed as being unable to work due to illness or disability; others are unable to work due to caring responsibilities for children or disabled adults.

NB carers are NOT going to be exempt, only receivers of Carers Allowance, receivers of income support as a carer are not.
