adam wrote:From John Oliver
“Our president-elect has, at various times, said he would bomb civilians, loot oil and waterboard, which isn’t a military strategy so much as the series of words that Donald Rumsfeld mutters so he can stay hard while he’s masturbating,” he said.

Oliver went on to say: “We are faced with the same questions as a guy that woke up the day after a Vegas bachelor party, deep in the desert, naked, tied to a cactus and a dead clown. Namely, how the fuck did we get here and what the fuck do we do now?”

He also discussed a common Republican response since the result: pundits and politicians telling us to give him a chance and see what happens.

“It’s like we’re on a plane and we just found out our pilot is a wombat,” he said. “I don’t like this, I don’t understand how it happened and I’m pretty sure we’re heading for disaster but what the hell, come on, batty, prove me wrong!”

He also believes that this can be a dangerous frame of mind to have. “Optimism is nice if you can swing it but you’ve got to be careful because it can feed into the normalization of Donald Trump, and he is not normal,” he said. “He is abnormal. He is a human ‘what is wrong with this picture?’”
Evening folks,
Thanks for that Adam, HBO have put the whole 30 mins on YouTube, but I had to watch using a VPN, as it's not released for the uk. Very funny and very much to the point. Is there a link that gets straight there?

We’re getting used to these nights now. There could be a referendum on whether everyone in Britain should have a red hot poker up their arse, and all the polls could show not a single person wanted a red hot poker up their arse, and you know around 2.30 in the morning Dimbleby would be gasping, “What an extraordinary night. Just look at that result from Worcester, 72 per cent in favour of a red hot poker up the arse. What on earth do you make of this, Paddy Ashdown?”

Hilary Benn will announce, “If Labour wishes to reconnect with our core voters, we have to be realistic and grab a woman’s pussy. Of course we must do this in a fair and measured way, in line with Labour’s traditional values, and our grabbing will be fully costed and at no expense to the taxpayer. I have raised this with Jeremy Corbyn, suggesting he starts with Dame Shirley Williams, but sadly have as yet received no reply.”

With regard to earlier discussions about whether Trump will be as bad as we fear, I offer this in the spirit of judging a man by the company he keeps. In this case a senior member of his campaign and transition team, who openly describes himself as a Leninist in his desire to smash the state.

And in case our usual suspect would like to suggest that Bannon has any connection whatsoever with Jeremy Corbyn because "Leninist", I'd just like to say how very much you would be belittled by doing so. Still wouldn't put it past you though, Hugo.

Edited for a comma, and why wouldn't you?

It isn't just Trump, it's a completely unfettered Republican Tea Party. There are precisely zero checks and balances on the stupid things they can and will now proceed to do. Total control of the Senate, the House and - soon - the Supreme Court. They'll wreak havoc. War. Hate. Denial. It's all coming.

Would Rubio, Cruz or any of the others (with the possible exception of Kasich) have been any better? No. probably worse. But the issue isn't just who is president.

with an unknown number of provisional ballots, absentee ballots and other outstanding ballots to be counted (or recounted).

One is that housebuilders deliberately constrain supply to keep prices - and their profits - high.
The government is considering bringing in financial sanctions for housebuilders that do not develop land quickly enough.
Gosh, doesn't that sound familiar. I wonder which party proposed doing something like that. Called Stalinist etc for it.
