I always enjoy Peter James's novels because they are based around Brighton & Hove so the landmarks he writes of are known to me.

Not quite seeing any conflict of interest though, until such time as James breaks the law that is.....

Haven't seen any police cars bearing his advertising either, apart from at his book signing sessions whenever he has a new book to promote.

It can be sufficient with conflicts of interest for them to be known. If he was ever arrested, it would hardly be a secret that he had this relationship!

Exactly my thoughts.

Our Prime minister playing petty party politics (for that is what it is) over such a serious issue is indicative of the level of political discourse to which we have descended.

Without wanting to open up an interminable and frankly, tedious debate on his merits or otherwise, can you imagine the furore from the usual suspects if Corbyn had claimed something in a similar vein?

I volunteer at a local library. It's mostly what you would expect, pensioners borrowing books, parents with toddlers attending story time for something to do. What a lot of people might not realise is just how many people pop in to use the computers to print something out. While many people have smartphones, the expense of a printer simply isn't worth it for the very rare occasions they need one. Libraries will be missed and by more people than you might think. It really is strange how people are just accepting the closure of so many public services. We've been able to afford all these things in the past, yet it is being passively accepted we can't afford them now. I think the Tory right must have picked up some tips from the US right which for so long has persuaded Americans that not having universal healthcare like Canada and much of Europe makes them sonehow superior. I mean seriously, how are they getting away with this crap?

Post Office workers to stage five days of strikes next week

Industrial action, which will include strike on Christmas Eve, is over job losses, pension changes and franchising of crown post offices
Can't say as I really blame them - but it won't endear them to the public.

Oh God! Hilary Ben jumping on the UKIP bandwagon now.
Hilary Benn, the chair of the Brexit Select Committee and former frontbencher, argued the 52% who voted to leave the EU “sent a message” about ending the free movement of people.

It comes amid a brewing Labour war on the issue, with leader Jeremy Corbyn and Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott opposed to curbing immigration from the EU.

So that'll be Sea Shepherd then. I must say that they seem to be getting an awful lot of chunky support, having just had a very spouncy new high speed craft built from new, the Ocean Warrior.

It looks like it's only Post Office employees involved - ie Crown offices, not those operated by supermarkets or local shops. Royal Mail will presumably be unaffected.
