Just to clarify, I'm happy with article linked above. Two-dimensional representations of a spherical object and placement of geographical features were distorted renderings. This wasn't explained to me for years.

But I don't really get why what he said was controversial. How was it unknown before that this is what Momentum were trying to do? Isn't this how entryism works?

The reason why there is speculation is obvious

CON: 45% LAB: 26% UKIP: 10% LDEM: 9%

I can't see Labour getting over 25% in an election. I think the LDs will beat Ukips. The last are finished as a viable political party.

What is also weird about those figures is that i thought the Tories had a bad week.

I think we're now at the point where swing voters just won't consider labour, however badly the Tories do.

Poor old Watson. He must know McCluskey is going to be re-elected handsomely, so why pick a fight?

All that will happen is the usual suspects will claim that Momentum are no worse than Progress, Labour First, the Fabians etc, and that Blairites like Watson (sic) are to blame for labour being 20 points behind two years into a Tory government in disarray over Brexit.

Almost all the PLP have shown amazing solidarity in allowing Corbyn enough rope, so why does Watson have to start a fight?

And however bad Corbyn has been as leader, Watson has been at least as bad in his role.

TBF to Watson, his job has been impossible. I (obviously) didn't vote for him, indeed he was very low on my list, but I cant see any of the alternatives being much better. Would Creasy, Flint or Eagle have been able to bridge the gap between Corbyn/McDonnell and the PLP? No. Indeed, I think Creasy would have had a very tough time of it, and is probably better off where she is.

There is certain amount of pleasure to be had in the spectacle of the "soft" left being marginalised and outflanked in the way we Evil Blairites were from 2007 onwards. Watson et al are now the far right of the party, and find it uncomfortable.

Watson really should have maintained PLP discipline however. Don't give Corbyn, Milne, McDonnell, Fischer and Lansman excuses. Their support won't last three years of polls with Tory 20 point leads.

Watson's job has not been "impossible" at all - given the contentiousness of Corbyn as a leader from the outset, the only role of a deputy that can work in that instance is as an honest "go between" for both JC's supporters and opponents. Instead, he has been clearly and increasingly nakedly sectarian almost from the outset.

Let's not forget how he pitched very much to the left in the 2015 deputy contest, shall we?

(whilst, it must be said, using his old-style fixing techniques to help steamroller the opposition - the apple never falls that far from the tree)

I think that it was impossible for him to act as an honest broker in this way, but that he did in fact try it, as did some of the PLP, which is why they initially agreed to serve in the shadow cabinet.

That fell to bits because the agenda of McDonnell, Milne, Corbyn, Fischer, Lansman etc is just not the same as that of the PLP. It isn't a disagreement about how to get to an agreed destination, but different agendas. McDonnell etc want to transform the Labour movement. The PLP wants to win a General Election. Between those two agendas no 'honest broker' role is available. They are opposed positions.

After the Brexit vote this 'give it a go' attempt collapsed, and so the shadow cabinet was reduced to its current bizarre condition. Optimists predicting the imminent return of, say, Ed Miliband or Lisa Nandy still haven't accepted what is going on.
