[img][img][/img][/img]Hello folks. Long time no see
I'm a bit annoyed and so I posted this on Facebook today.
"As you will have seen from my incessant whinging, I have a bad finger.
There is a serious point to this.
Ideally, I should have had my tendon repaired within 24 hours, 48 max.
However, I had my repair on day 5 by which time my tendon had started to liquefy, so it really wasn't t a big surprise when the repair failed.
So why the delay?
I accept that a regional centre of excellence which has an over representation of military and farming populations is likely to be busy, and my little finger is fairly low priority.
I accept that I was cancelled on two days running, the second time when I was already gowned an in theatre, because of the severity of cases being dealt with.
What I cannot accept is that a regional plastic surgery unit and a regional spinal unit, both centres of excellence, have one theatre between them over the weekend, with one service getting half a day priority over the other.
This is whilst other theatres are idle.
"Well just open them then" I hear you say, and here's the nub.
THERES NO BLOODY MONEY TO DO IT BECAUSE OF THE UNDERFUNDING OF THE NHS.
This is the underfunding of specialist regional units, units not available elsewhere.
My consultant had to have a massive row with managers to open theatres a bit earlier on Sunday to get me done.
It failed, so two more complicated operations for me.
How much more will that cost the NHS?
How much will my inability to work properly cost the NHS?
Make no mistake, this will get worse. For me, I'm likely to have an ok hand, possibly with some reduced function, but it's my little finger, and I'm a shit guitarist so I can live with that.
But what when it's someone's thumb. Or hand. Or hands?"
Do feel free to find me ( dominiccasey) and share if you want.
Bye bye

But the findings contrast sharply with a ComRes poll the same day, which suggest the Conservatives still have a healthy 12 point advantage over Labour.

ComedyResults have the Tories on a genuinely ridiculous 47%. Evening all
Been over to UKPR to get some view on the differences
The big debate seems to be about the treatment of turnout, especially the young voters
One day they are going to come out and vote.....something they have promised before only to not bother....could 2017 be the year?
I have always said that this year is really difficult to predict as models have been built up in different circumstances
My guess is Labour are in the 35-38% range and the Tories in the 40-43% but I have no confidence
The thing is that strikes me is that the Tories are depending on the Brexit voters to come out for them to push that much above 40% - how flaky is that vote going to be when it comes to polling day?
There have been polls today ranging from a 1% Con lead to 12%- someone somewhere has got their models right and someone has got them very wrong
I think, in the end, it is who predicts the youth/woman contribution the best who will get it right

No - I'm hearing Theresa May's speech again. And she did say it (well, she actually said "across" the public sector).
Re: Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th June 2017
Saying things need to change after 6 years as Home Secretary doesn't look very good for her. It's hard to see how laying off experienced border staff, police and army personnel could in any way be argued to have improved our security over the last 7 years. No point securing powers to spy on everyone on the internet if you have only limited public services to actually follow through on any leads obtained.AnatolyKasparov wrote:Did much the same thing after Manchester, completely shameless.NonOxCol wrote:Once she's finished blaming the Internet and pushing her authoritarian policies in a TV address, that is.AnatolyKasparov wrote: Yes, grim stuff again

Yes, exactly.
Are Tories and those supporting them hoping we're too dazed, ignorant or frightened to make that simple connection? Tory minister/prime minister/MP in the same Tory government leading the country for over seven (7) years and who does T May blame now? 'public sector extremists'?

An investigation into the foreign funding and support of jihadi groups that was authorised by David Cameron may never be published, the Home Office has admitted.
The inquiry into revenue streams for extremist groups operating in the UK was commissioned by the former prime minister and is thought to focus on Saudi Arabia, which has repeatedly been highlighted by European leaders as a funding source for Islamist jihadis.
The investigation was launched as part of a deal with the Liberal Democrats in exchange for the party supporting the extension of British airstrikes against Islamic State into Syria in December 2015.

What are Tories going for here, please? Big companies providing Internet access got to go? Do we have to turn in our"...we cannot allow this ideology the safe space it needs to breed. Yet that is precisely what the internet –
and the big companies that provide internet-based services – provide. We need to work with allied, democratic
governments to reach international agreements that regulate cyberspace to prevent the spread of extremism and
terrorist planning. And we need to do everything we can at home to reduce the risks of extremism online.
...it also means taking action here at home. While we have made significant progress in recent years, there is – to be frank –
far too much tolerance of extremism in our country.
So we need to become far more robust in identifying it and stamping it out – across the public sector and across society.
That will require some difficult and often embarrassing conversations, but the whole of our country needs to come together
to take on this extremism – and we need to live our lives not in a series of separated, segregated communities but as one
truly United Kingdom."

It wasn't clear who was speaking in the above clip, but I've tracked them down. It's a former senior met officer, Peter Kirkham, and he raised similar points after the Westminster attack. From March 2017:

From what he says in the clip I gather there has been a promise to reverse that cut by 2020 but any claims that has already happened are false.Official Home Office figures show that the number of Metropolitan firearms officers dropped by a quarter, from a high of 2,856 in 2010, to 2,139 by last year.
