From it -
But most obviously, Grenfell Tower is a story of inequality, of the poor herded into a cramped building made unsafe because it was prettified to improve the view of the nearby rich.
Goes back to what I was trying to get at yesterday.

I know that I mistyped Sajid Javid's name the other day (I called him Sajid David) but couldn't be bothered to correct it. Anyway - I dreamed about it last night and it woke me up. So, this is a belated sort of edit. For my own sake and not his. Yes, I know - pathetic . . .

Local GP on the G Grenfell blog sums up May's problem.
Kazmi went down to help at the rescue and relief centres, but found them already “very well-staffed” with doctors and nurses who had volunteered.

'I sat down on the floor and played with some children. I didn’t use my stethoscope those hours I was at the centre, but I still feel I was a doctor. I think that sometimes empathy and witnessing someone’s grief are as important a part of our role as procedures or prescribing'.

After Grenfell Tower unbridled anger won’t make our homes any safer
Deborah Orr
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfr ... eprty-rage" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I hadn't expected to like the article as much as I did. Very wholesome and practical, I thought.
Some people have suggested the Grenfell Tower disaster “should not be politicised”. That’s a nonsensical statement.
The provision of social housing is political, as was the decision to remove its management from local authorities whenever possible.

But I do think there is merit in considering whether this highly emotional situation should be further emotionalised. Politics, after all, is about managing or increasing power. Emotions are about expressing how you feel. Politicians are falling over themselves to tell survivors they understand their anger. What they need to understand is their arguments. They need to understand exactly why they let people down as badly as it was possible to let them down.

The government, such as it is, needs to take full responsibility, because without full responsibility the need to blame roams savagely and the desire to avoid blame rears up. Money must be made available so that this appalling, corner-cutting mistake can be rectified within the shortest space of time.

The first priority is providing safety, security and support for the survivors who lost their homes, their family members and neighbours. The second is removing the fear of people around the country that their building might be next. The third, though, is replacing anger with resolve and a genuine commitment to create a Britain where a safe, decent home is a right, not a luxury.

Something that has been in very short supply among the whole body political and the MSM in the UK for too many years has been the ability to listen.

The council has been controlled by the Conservative Party since it was first elected in 1964.

Since the press often avails itself of "Twitter" and "Facebook" posts as part of their coverage of stories, they should be active in rebutting falsehoods when they occur. They can't use the excuse of their standing apart from "Twitter".

Queen's speech to MPs dropped next year to allow for Brexit laws
In a highly unusual move, the parliamentary session is being doubled to two years. The leader of the Commons, Andrea Leadsom, said this would give MPs and peers the maximum time possible to scrutinise legislation taking the UK out of the European Union. It means the government will not put forward a new legislative programme next year.
