Credit where it's due to the BBC on this.

Most of the story is behind its paywall but this from the Telegraph seems to me to be typical of a lot of the response to the election from the fourth estate wing of the establishment...
Definitive General Election analysis: How youngsters, Remainers and graduates stole May's landslide
Definitive General Election analysis: How youngsters, Remainers and graduates stole May's landslide
Jeremy Corbyn's surprisingly strong performance in the General Election was driven by a wave of newly-galvanised youngsters, graduates and Remainers, robbing Theresa May of her majority in the process.

Good to see the DWP possibly showing some leeway in sanction/denial regime, perhaps reasonableness and sensitivity to circumstances should be the norm,a contentious radical thought I know.

Re: Tuesday 20th June 2017
Yeah. In letters in the local press - which are even more exciting and vibrant than the kind of thing that gets written in the Telegraph - we are told that the misguided baby snowflakes are now responsible for weakening Britain's hand in EU negotiations and will be the ones to blame if things don't work out as we want them.HindleA wrote:"stole"

Hard-hitting stuff from Laura McInerney this morning.
You messed with schools, Theresa May, so you messed with half the electorate

You messed with schools, Theresa May, so you messed with half the electorate
https://www.theguardian.com/education/2 ... orate-cuts
There are a hundred reasons why the election went the way it did, but austerity in schools was key. Cutting back in education isn’t only short-termist, it’s bad politics. There are more than 8 million school-aged children. They have about 12 million parents and roughly the same number of grandparents. Half a million people work as state school teachers. Another half a million work in allied services. Messing with education isn’t just messing with the youth, it’s messing with half the electorate.
If I'm not here, then I'll be in the library. Or the other library.

It feels to me like this is what the snap election was all about. May wanted a big enough majority to deliver hard Brexit and sideline the Hammond wing of the party.Hammond said in a speech at Mansion House in the City of London: “I have said before, and I remain clear today, that when the British people voted last June, they did not vote to become poorer or less secure.
“They did vote to leave the EU. And we will leave the EU. But it must be done in a way that works for Britain. In a way that prioritises British jobs, and underpins Britain’s prosperity. Anything less will be a failure to deliver on the instructions of the British people.”

In an industrial conflict the union side will be said to 'claim', 'demand' or 'reject' while management are more likely to be presented as making a 'plea', 'offer' or 'proposal'.
Policies on wage restraint are justified by constant references to the alleged 'excessive' demands of the past.
In the period of four months...there were only 17 occasions when someone appeared on the TV news and argued that wage restraint and lower wages were not the way to resolve the economic crisis. In the same period there were 287 occasions when someone argued that this was exactly what was needed.

And some prannies like d'Ancona kept arguing the opposite: that May would use her larger mandate to silence the hard Brexiteers, because she was a consensus Remainer, don't you know, and all those Dacre headlines were a complete coincidence.
