Speaking only for myself, that depresses me far more than anything Umunna did, or anything Ken Clarke didn't do.

Why?

If that is the attitude then I despair....I don't care what Farage thinks - he is a dick and an opportunist who tries to spin everything in the way he wants

What we have seen today is another example of a self-inflicted Labour wound that takes some pressure of the Government

I don't think it's pointless
I don't think Corbyn was surprised, you know, I think it was planned
Don't think so badly of those MPs, it's not Labour without disagreement
I rather like the UK's position in the Single Market

I defend the Labour leader and Labour MPs because Labour is a twenty-first century democratic socialist party representing all kinds of people not just those with trust funds and titles. I think the party is okay right now. I'm not offended by any Labour action here.

Tories do this 'Brexit' horseshit, it's not Labour's.
I am offended by Umunna's action - massively so and it needs to be jumped on now

I speak here as someone who has been vilified and called all sorts because I supported the leadership through the coup attempts, the insults on television, the people in the party leaking and being all to ready to criticise

We were going to be at 20% or below and down to 150 seats according to a lot of commentators - including a number on here.

Labour's position was all wrong on everything, especially Brexit

Despite all this the party got its act together and is in a stronger position than anytime since 2010 - and to be fair I have sen little to criticise the PLP on since the election.

Then this totally unnecessary amendment was put forward by a prominent backbencher which contradicted his stated position only a few months ago, that seems to have no other purpose but to damage the party

Don't tell me that I should suddenly forget the last two years and pretend there are not some who are mightily pissed off that Labour did so well.....as long as they focus their frustration on the Tories then that doesn't really matter that much but to do something as stupid as what Umunna did just makes me angry

Can someone explain to me what the political point of this amendment was?

So what was the point then?

He may not be surprised but he was not happy about it, he has sacked people

Disagreement is fine but stupid damaging stunts are't, especially when the Government is in such a weak state

So do I, but what has today's vote done to help us to stay in?

We members can change things.....

I am disgusted at Umunna's behaviour and would be happy to see him losing the whip on the grounds of gross stupidity at least. Once the amendment was there I can accept some of the others supported it because that is what they believe and I have some sympathy with that. Others I am not so sure of though, as there are a few of the usual subjects in there that always seem to vote like this....
(cJA edit)
None, no Tory MP voted for it.

Labour aren't Tories. People voted Labour in the hopes they'll stop Tory harm. Labour MPs have responsibilities like the Labour party leader has responsibilities. Sometimes open disagreements like this will occur. I don't think this was clandestine or done to cause harm to Corbyn, Labour or people and county.

Well excuse me if I beg to differ.....it is not that we have had two years of people undermining the leader is it?

The same old suspects trotted out to rebel didn't they - Gapes, Woodcock, Bryant, Bradshaw, Coyle, Doughty......

If it wasn't done to harm well it has had that effect, hopefully not to seriously, but harm nevertheless......to that extent it was naïve or stupid as it has done nothing useful

Failing free school to be closed down - with 210 pupils and 25 staff affected

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... n-13259912
A failing free school is to be closed down after a catalogue of controversies and ‘the worst Ofsted’ its local MP had ever seen.

Staff and students at The Collective Spirit school in Oldham were informed of the decision at the end of the school day on Thursday, which comes after months of criticism over how it - as well as its sister school in Manchester - was being run.

The drastic move means 210 students will now have to find new schools for September and around 25 teachers and staff are at risk of redundancy.
When that arse-licker Toady Young talks about free schools, he never mentions the disasters like this only those that are outstanding.

Ironically enough, the school he founded recently got an Ofsted report...Good. So wouldn't make it into Toby's hymn of praise to the movement...
