This is scary.
There was a long piece about this a month or two ago I remember reading - saying 'transition' doesn't mean anything unless you are completely clear about what you're transitioning to. The government seem to be using it to mean 'an extra few years to try to sort things out'.

The EU said at a very early stage that a transition period would only be agreed to if they knew the outline of the system we were transitioning to. Nothing new there, just more evidence that our representatives aren't listening to the other side.

The other thing on the transitional time is that each of the other 27 have to agree to allow it, it's not just down to Michel Barnier.

Had just posted a comment when the article was deleted but one of the comments btl in response to another said:
@Simon Hargreaves Oh Simon, Oh Simon, oh Simon. You have only just discovered Kevin Meyers! He writes for The Times on a weekly basis I think. We (in Ireland) have had to live with Kevin for the past 30 years. You can be assured that whatever the sane and rational perspective on any given story, Kevin will always find an opposite and  controversial angle, deliberately designed to provoke outrage. Sexism (and in this article anti-semitism, appealing to the old and worn Shylock stereotype of Jews)  are just the tip of the iceberg. Welcome to the world of Kevin.
I generally find the Times & ST nowhere near as bad as the Telegraph but employing a known anti-Semite as columnist does them no favours whatsoever.

Haven't we all at some point AK.....that is just how it is sometimes

This particular poster always seems to be happy to project an air of superiority - a quick 'whoops!' would suffice, as most people would have done if it was pointed out they had posted a link to a spoof

Or does he actually challenge that it is a spoof?

“I note that two of the best-paid women presenters in the BBC - Claudia Winkleman and Vanessa Feltz, with whose, no doubt, sterling work I am tragically unacquainted - are Jewish. Good for them. Jews are not generally noted for their insistence on selling their talent for the lowest possible price, which is the most useful measure there is of inveterate, lost-with-all-hands stupidity. I wonder, who are their agents?”
Jews like money innit.

This exact trope has got Jews mass murdered, on more than one occasion in history. How did this get published?

Exactly, yes.

This is a good piece from Flip Chart Rick.

https://flipchartfairytales.wordpress.c ... ss-vacuum/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Rick compares Brexit to be being in an office where you've been told to redesign the structures and systems, but can't get a proper answer about what the redesign is supposed to achieve. After a while a new manager comes in and says you've just got to get on with it, and you do, but soon you realize you still need a plan.

A Brexiter shows up and ridicules planning. Another poster hilariously compares him to David Brent trying to explain away why he hasn't done some planning job he's been told to do.

As with the best Brexiters, there's a bizarre analogy chucked in, involving Microsoft and Apple. If you think it's bizarre, that speaks volumes about you, apparently. Never mind, there's another analogy coming along- The Soviet Union. I always wonder how many Latvians muddle up the USSR and the EU.

Major issues - what would a good EU look like?:

globalisation
and our cultural failure to overcome in/out-group hostility
technological unemployment
consumer demand for lowest costs keeps wages low
security
individualism/populism
aristocracy and its post-revolutionary equivalent

Why Brits hate the ECJ (or do we)?
http://www.politico.eu/article/brexit-e ... est-court/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Former Home Secretary Charles Clarke rejects May’s analysis entirely: “I certainly don’t hate the ECJ and I believe that at least 95 percent of the British people don’t give a toss about the ECJ, of which probably 75 percent haven’t the slightest idea what it is,” he said.

9. It has ‘Europe’ in the title

Many people are confused about the difference between the ECJ — which enforces EU law — and the European Court of Human Rights, which is based in Strasbourg and was established by the European Convention on Human Rights.

Unpopular, and well publicized, judgments about allowing prisoners the right to vote and preventing terrorists being deported are often attributed to the wrong court, according to Barnard. “There is some confusion between the courts and again it reinforces this narrative of external control over internal affairs,” she said.

The Bank’s maintenance, security and hospitality staff are to strike in a dispute over pay

The Bank of England will hold last-ditch talks with the UK’s largest trade union on Monday as the central bank attempts to avert its first strike in 50 years.

The stoppage has been called over a below-inflation pay offer to the Bank’s maintenance, security and hospitality staff, and was originally due to begin on Monday. However, the action has been delayed for a day to allow late talks via the conciliation service, Acas, and is now scheduled to last between Tuesday and Thursday if talks fail.
