Private Eye Medicine Balls

(Dr. Phil Hammond)
Bloody Mess

"I was at medical school in the eighties, and we often didn’t even tell patients their diagnosis. Seriously ill patients were fobbed off with paternalistic euphemisms, unilateral decisions were made not to resuscitate with no discussion and junior surgeons would do major operations for the first time, unsupervised, with their consultant not even in the hospital. The NHS survived on its threadbare funding through secrecy. Errors, risky behaviour and harm were routinely covered up. The secrecy surrounding the emerging tainted blood scandal was entirely consistent with the culture of the time."

Good morfternoon.
Northern Irish social workers could be prosecuted due to benefits 'rape clause'

Professional group joins Labour in warning that claimants for children born of non-consensual sex may be criminalised

Social workers have warned that they [the mothers, I'm deducing] could face criminal prosecution as a result of the government’s decision to extend the two-child limit on benefits, which carries a controversial “rape clause”, to Northern Ireland.

(Guardian)
This is because, as the article explains, in Northern Ireland it's an offence not to report a crime to police.

Currently, the mega antitrust cases — grappling with global behemoths like Google and GE — are handled on Britain’s behalf by the European Commission. After Brexit, the job of policing these and global mergers worth tens of billions of pounds will fall to the U.K.’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA). Will it be up to the job?

I don't know about that case, and I'm not a lawyer, but I'm guessing a law on reporting all crimes is probably not all that effective in practice. Don't most places limit it to reporting very specific things?

I don't know. Be interested to find out.

Edited to add -

Depending upon the answer - would the "not reporting a crime" crime also apply to the social workers if they are aware that a crime has been alleged?

Two things health and/or social care workers have to report to authorities
1) person going to hurt themselves
2) person going to hurt someone else

Article doesn't mention holders of direct payments/personal budgets. We got a night a fortnight,I can't honestly remember the original amount allowed/used for calculated purposes but it was different for overnight and a set amount not hourly. You can set your own rate subject to law if holders have to been ill advised/budgets haven't allowed for this there is a problem.

I find you hard to understand HA. Not sure who your comments are directed at at all, or if you're just doing a crossword. I tend to think a comment is aimed at the last poster - which was me in this instance - and can't work out if you are being sarcastic (you think I should not post) or genuine (thanking me for a post). Sigh.
I'm not the brightest tool in the box.

Good night all.
