I don't underestimate the difficulty in turning this around, but it needs to happen.

The Campaign group in control of the party don't want to turn it around.

We've done this before.

I'm not convinced if there's a big enough core of hardcore leftist "I love 1983" to hold a pro-hard Brexit position by themselves, even if they want to. I am worried about a combination of them and "legitimate concern" types holding it.

Every couple of weeks we have this 'Labour must come out against Brexit' story in the press (usually brought up by Umunna to be honest) and then Hugo starts frothing about Commies!

Nothing material has changed since the last time we discussed it - apart from the fact the Tories are behaving even more incompetently than normal (but let us forget this and make it all about the Opposition who can actually do diddly squat)

Parliament is not sitting and, as far as I can see, there has been nothing to report from negotiations - all we had were some useless 'position papers' which Starmer laughed at as much of the rest of Europe has done

I must admit if the aim is to get people to change their minds and support him, then Umunna is being spectacularly incompetent (perhaps he should join the Brexit negotiating team) because all it does for me is make me more annoyed and start arguing against him for the sake of it

Brexit will become more and more ridiculous as the results of the negotiations become apparent - we have 14 months or so to have something concrete and so far we have nothing - letting the Tories make a mess of it for another few months and then respond to actual concrete outcomes from the negotiations seems a far more sensible approach in my view than responding to speculation and gossip
