Define 'normally' Ken, because Boris is only the most extreme example of how ministers don't resign any more.

Conference calls for:

1. Liberal Democrats across the UK to fight for the rights of deaf and disabled people in every sphere of their lives, and hold Governments and agencies to account.
2. The UK Government urgently to review its policies, to take immediate steps to remedy those highlighted by the UN and the Lords Select Committee report as failing, and to report back within 12 months.

I would argue far worse and misses the point to a degree.Needless to say I don't like the othering thing.Part of the reason they get away with it is precisely that.Sensible investment and accounting for circumstances, which we ALL could face is being dismantled.State reciprocity residualisation that creates the previously avoided.

Particularly targeted at the sick/disabled/carers,hence my fascistically intended description.Views differ of course but why the purposeful exclusion (unlike the Saving Gateways Scheme,Osborne largely stole)in Help to Save, for those unable to work the necessary hours and only UC.eg.many receivers of CA are not on means tested benefits,it would have aided that situation.Only attending to(whilst needlesslycreating)the most "vulnerable" in both income and support terms is mindnumbingly stupid,in any case.

Though it can be argued it is more of a compromise for Corbyn's opponents.

With the PLP moving modestly but discernably to the left after this year's GE, and that process likely to continue in the near future, 10% shouldn't be that onerous now.

15% wasn't onerous. Corbyn got more than that in the unofficial confidence vote.

Quite a few MPs supposedly said they wouldn't "make the mistake" of "lending" their nomination to a left candidate in any future contest.

Reducing the threshold even to 10% will effectively take this out of their hands.

In any case, it is indeed good to see the party managing to avoid tripping itself up on these issues.

Hopefully Conference can really work up the idea of the government in waiting. It could be quite impressive!

The Campaign Group (or whatever polite name is allowed) has won.

McDonnell asked for more than he thought he could get, so the compromise is what he wanted in the first place.

But there is no point anyone opposing what Corbyn now wants as he now has a large majority of members and a majority of delegates.

The old "soft" left is now just a rump, with the Blairites nowhere (those that haven't left).

I don't really get why people like Richard Angell bother. I can see if you're an MP with poor job prospects why you'd stay, but for unpaid foot soldiers of the old moderate left there is no party left to fight for. Why are they bothering even trying? It is over. Purges next.

The only worry for the Corbynites, in a clear blue sky, is what would happen if Corbyn died as they have no viable candidate. But he looks a very spry, healthy 68.

The other worry is what on earth happens if the party actually won. Surely Corbyn couldn't persist in his current policy of who merits a frontbench place? Does loyalty really trump everything else? It is embarrassing in opposition, but would be a disaster in government,

Like many I have always disagreed with some things, regardless.I recognise my view is mine and mine alone I don't expect people to agree in entirety(an actual worrying thought)Far too weak/unclear on some things to my mind,as ever they are competing interests/emphasis and conflictions. If you broadly want to get rid of the Tories from office and would much rather bemoan a Labour Government,it shouldn't be a puzzlement at all.

The problems with Universal Credit

Universal Credit is in danger of going down in flames because of a decision that is not absolutely intrinsic to its design, argues Nicholas Timmins.

(Needless to say UC from inception and clear for all to see if they wished removed pre existing benefits/the ability to work and receive housing support for homeowners etc as "simplification",to be fair any such attempt would necessarilly entail "what to do with" scenarios you have to make losers, apply generally at vast expense or keep the complexity and get back to where you started.

Voting rights are not a special privilege. They are not something the state should be able to take away as a form of petty discipline, like a parent deciding an obstinate child should go to bed without dessert. So it’s worrying to see the Electoral Commission recommend that “social media trolls” be punished in this manner, treating a core civil right as something that can be blithely withdrawn.
Exactly
I'm astounded that such an idea is seriously mooted
I'm astounded UK citizens in prison are banned from voting
astounded UK citizens living outside the UK for 15 years banned from voting
I shouldn't be so astounded
