I just ate a pepperami and now I'm wondering why.

I kind of got a craving for one, but it was really rather horrible in actuality. I'm pretty certain I came to the same conclusion the last time I ate one, so why did I eat another one? Must be the same reason people keep voting Tory. Pepperami have brainwashed me.

Ha!

All I can say is I wouldn't recommend it, for any reason. I blame the power of advertising.

#Paul Krugman

Right now, I'm feeling more terrified than at any point since the 2016 election. Why? It's time for some game theory! 1/

Start with a clear-eyed assessment of Trump's character: he basically has negative empathy -- that is, enjoys seeing others hurt 2/

Normally, however, one would expect him to pretend to care and maybe even do some good things out of ambition and self-aggrandizement 3/

At this point, however, it's clear to everyone -- probably even him -- that he just can't do this president thing, and won't get better 4/

The prospect that he will be removed, say by 25th amdt, getting realer by the day. And again, he probably knows this at some level

So we're getting into the end game. He can't save his presidency. He can, however, still hurt a lot of people. And he surely wants to

So from now on, until he's gone, I'm going to fire up my computer every morning in a state of existential dread 7/

I can't help thinking that Philip Hammond's "enemies" comment was his attempt at a humourous piss-take. Which backfired.

Yeah I thought that. Haven't seen the judges reasoning so wonder what the exact grounds for the ruling were. Certainly as a co-ed school, it seems reasonable for Ofsted to expect it to provide a co-ed education, but the idea that single sex learning is fundamentally detrimental in and of itself is going to come as something of a surprise to the British upper classes!

It's just another example of Tories playing to the home crowd as if the rest of Europe can't hear what they're saying. It's this insular, arrogant outlook that got us into this mess in the first place and it seems few Tories are immune.

You think it was an attempt to be "in" with the "in crowd" (or, in this case, the "out crowd")? Perhaps I'm being too charitable.

Doesn't appear to affect single-sex schools:
The ruling applies only to co-educational schools. Single-sex schools are given a specific exemption from discrimination claims related to admissions under the Equalities Act, although it is unclear if the provisions would extend to arguments that both sexes suffer from the absence of the other.

There's a lot there but a quick skim through suggests a precedent that when the opposite sex are allowed into a single sex school, such as girls studying 'A' levels at a boys school, whether and what they can attend to study can be decided by the school, but social activity can't, so being excluded from the cafeteria or trips because they are girls would be viewed as discrimination.

Odd in many ways, but certainly suggests a co-ed school which allows both girls and boys to attend could be seen as discriminating under current UK law if they limit access to the canteen or trips based on sex, in a way that it isn't discrimination, bizarrely, to only offer places in a school generally to one sex or the other. I guess that would have to be the case or you wouldn't legally be able to have women only gym sessions, for instance.

I can see this rumbling on. There are other schools segregating in this way and this ruling does suggest they are acting unlawfully by not allowing a girl to socialise with a fellow boy pupil solely because she is a girl and vice versa.

Letter in the Indy:
No Prime Minister is better than this Prime Minister

The Eccentric Party propose that Britain adopts a radical new plan of replacing Theresa May with nobody at all and leaving the post permanently vacant.

As plotting against the Prime Minister gathers strength, the country has largely agreed with the Tories that there are no suitable candidates and suggested Downing Street should be left fallow for the immediate future.

...Theresa May’s already essentially a vacancy at the top. We’d just be making it formal.

Lord Toby Jug, leader, the Eccentric Party of Great Britain
