Things must be in a parlous state when Chris Grayling has to be wheeled out as the Government's "hands steady on the tiller" spokesperson (Peston on Sunday). Imagine waking up and thinking, "Who can I turn to?" and Chris Grayling is the person who springs to mind.

(Admittedly, Amber Rudd was on the Andrew Marr programme but Theresa May could be on a dodgy wicket there if AR is given too much prominence.)

Damian Green urged to step down while porn allegations are investigated

Tory MP says source of allegations that porn was found on his Commons computer in 2008 is ‘tainted and untrustworthy’

Two Conservative MPs have called for Damian Green to step down as Theresa May’s deputy while claims of inappropriate behaviour against him are investigated by the party.

The suggestion came as the home secretary, Amber Rudd, confirmed that a wider Cabinet Office inquiry into the conduct of Green, the first secretary of state, would look into allegations that pornography was found on his Commons computer.

Green – who vehemently denies any wrongdoing – has become the focus of a wave of allegations of abuse and harassment in Westminster.

Rudd said on Sunday she believed it was time for wrongdoers to be drummed out of parliament. “I think it is something that will take place in terms of clearing out Westminster of that sort of behaviour, and I think Westminster afterwards – including the government – will be better for it,” she told BBC1’s Andrew Marr Show. Edited to add -

Note Amber Rudd didn't associate Theresa May with her comments. Nary a mention.

Catalonia ex-officials surrender to Belgian police

Catalonia's deposed leader Carles Puigdemont and four former advisers have turned themselves in to Belgian police, says a prosecutors' spokesman.

He said an investigating judge would decide by Monday morning whether to execute an EU arrest warrant issued by a Spanish judge on Friday. (BBC News website)

Where's HindleA? He's taking this "sensible" thing to worrying levels.

Edited to add - not that much of what he says isn't sensible, in any case.

The most important thing to look for is a cultural shift in which abusive behaviour is no longer tolerated and hushed up, but faced and dealt with. Mrs May could be the right woman at the right time in the right office to lead that.

Reaction to Peter Hitchens' article has been, it has to be said, decidedly mixed.

Finally read that Peter Hitchens article and it is – I think this is the correct technical term – an utterly unbelievable load of old toss.

She just promoted her Chief Whip, who it appears was sitting on top of all this stuff. Astoundingly out of touch bubblethink from Rawnsley.

Also in the Times. Is this genuine or another of those hastily backtracked things? Still wondering if May's hoping to keep us in the EU or single market because "Labour made her do it" / "back stabbing EU autocrats wouldn't agree a proper deal".

I cannot imagine the Blessed Margaret being overly impressed by male advances, and allowing anyone to get away with anything she considered 'unacceptable' .

Definitely not one of today's delicate little flowers who are some of them suffering with serious PTSD from a hand on the knee 'n'ty years ago :-)
