A small but telling little tale of PIP - I had to phone today to take my one chance to rearrange an assessment appointment for my daughter (that they have been nice enough to arrange at my house - 'you must attend an appointment at your address on such a such time and date - failure to attend may la la la...'). There was no problem dealing with this over the phone but I needed my daughter's NINO. The letter I was calling about is the only welfare benefits (and so on) official communication I've ever had that didn't feature that information - instead it had a PIP reference with 'you will need this reference number if you 'phone' written by it. Putting people off by a thousand cuts...

I have to then add that whilst the system is designed to frustrate and repel, the woman I spoke to was excellent and straightforward - she accepted that the dates available were also no good, and told me to call back later in the week because if she put it to defer to a date to be fixed it would go straight onto one of the dates she'd already offered.

Statement from International Development Secretary Priti Patel

"While there on holiday, she took the opportunity to meet a number of people and organisations, including a range of politicians, businesses, tech start ups, and humanitarian NGOs. These meetings were an opportunity to learn about the Israeli approach to technology and development.

The meetings were arranged by the Conservative Peer, Lord Polak CBE. He also attended the meetings, with the exception of the meeting with Dr Aliza Inbal."

Some holiday that must have been - look at all the meetings attended. Glad she paid for it all herself though.
