Morning!

So, as trailed here I think, the Times reports May preparing for a "climbdown" on enshrining the Brexit day in law.

Hopefully true, mainly because it's a loss of face for May and the Hard Breixt brigade, but also could provide a bit of breathing space I suppose.

Philip Hammond’s local council fails to build enough homes

Runnymede among 15 to be given ultimatum by Sajid Javid over housing plans

Philip Hammond’s council was one of 15 local authorities singled out by the government for failing to produce enough new housing — just days before the chancellor is expected to present a housing-focused Budget.

Mr Hammond, who is MP for Runnymede and Weybridge, is under pressure to produce an array of measures next Wednesday designed to boost the supply of housing across the country.

But Runnymede council was among 15 identified on Thursday by Sajid Javid, communities secretary, as having failed to produce adequate “Local Plans” setting out how and where they would provide new homes."

Simon Coveney: Ireland 'jumping into dark' on Brexit

Ireland is not ready to allow talks on Britain's withdrawal from the EU to move to the second phase next month, its foreign minister has said.

Simon Coveney was speaking ahead of talks with his UK counterpart, Boris Johnson - mainly focused on Brexit.

His message was reinforced by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar in a meeting with Theresa May ahead of an EU summit in Sweden.

He said the assurance that there would be no hard border in Ireland must be written down before talks move on. (BBC News website)

Will Budget be a Pret sandwich short of a picnic?

" We are odds-on for housing-related Budget promises next Wednesday, but even if the chancellor cuts stamp duty, extends Help to Buy, promises to build more homes and hastens the ban on letting agents’ fees, how much lasting impact will it have?

Help to Buy should be renamed “help the housebuilders”.

The policy was first launched in March 2013 Budget. Back then, if you had the foresight to buy £25,000 worth of shares in Persimmon — the UK’s second-largest housebuilder — you would now be sitting on that £90,000 deposit according to Hargreaves Lansdown, which calculates total returns of 254 per cent over this period (other builders are not far behind)."

"Disability History Scotland has been involved in some ground-breaking research into the "Forgotten Peoples March", organised by the National League of the Blind. In 1920 marchers set off from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Paisley to meet up with other demonstrators from across the U.K. for a huge rally in Trafalgar Square. The marchers were blind men from sheltered workshops and trade union councils. They wanted pensions and workers’ rights; "Justice not charity" was their motto."
