Very interesting on housing policy

Housebuilding outstripping increase in number of households shows not as simple as lack of supply.
I'd prefer a more London focused analysis, but very good and certainly a challenge to the lazy assumptions of someone like me.

Ironic laugh on the usual "split",which isn't because of course the Coalition introduced default bespoke targeted charging on the poorest sick/disabled/carers,unsurprisingly some who receive social care at the same time Councils increased for many receivers the amount charged that was already being specifically applied. The "minimum the law allows",is easilly "adaptable"

Very intereting.
not that either party seems remotely interested in a serious housing policy unfortunately.

In other news, the gas people are putting in new gas pipes under the street and to the houses in our road. The stone slabs in our front garden are looking a bit of a mess right now. I just hope they don't have to damage our Edwardian mosaiced path.

It strikes me that the Edwardian mosaic path would have been there when they put the original gas pipe in, so if they managed not to damage it last time there's no excuse for damaging it this time. Still, if they're anything like the cowboys BT outsource to, I can see why you're worried.RogerOThornhill wrote:In other news, the gas people are putting in new gas pipes under the street and to the houses in our road. Yes it should be OK but because of the pipe size they're having to fiddle about more than they would have hoped. They're also installing an outside meter which is on the other side of the path.Willow904 wrote:It strikes me that the Edwardian mosaic path would have been there when they put the original gas pipe in, so if they managed not to damage it last time there's no excuse for damaging it this time. Given that they apparently got engaged earlier in the month, it's odd timing - I would assume No 10 knew when the announcement would be made.

I now have a hole in the floorboards where they're going to run a new pipe from the front of the house. Dining room door shut to keep the cat from going down the hole...as happened when our bathroom was being done. I remember my daughter calling out "Quick! Noddy's down the hole!"

When Northumbrian Water replaced my lead water main, their burrowing machine embedded itself underground. They had to close the street and dig up half the road and a pavement to a depth of about 5 feet to retrieve it. We were popular with the commuters.RogerOThornhill wrote:I now have a hole in the floorboards where they're going to run a new pipe from the front of the house. I'm sure I've posted this before, but anyway -
the reporter said, "The area is now a cycle path," and the BBC subtitle read, "The area is now a psychopath". True. I laughed like a drain.

Labour has told ministers to meet the deadline for handing over dozens of studies on the impact of Brexit or risk being held in contempt of Parliament.
Sir Keir Starmer, Labour's shadow Brexit secretary, also threatened to take action if any of the DExEU papers are redacted.
