Derby cordoned-off Christmas tree 'an embarrassment'
It's more than an embarrassment, it's a strategic disaster, cutting Christmas shoppers off from seating and rubbish bins. You've really got to question the ability of local councils sometimes. We have Christmas every year. Surely they must have worked out the best spot for a tree by now?!

Lewis was asked by the BBC how he could be sure it was Green, now the first secretary of state, who accessed the images. He said: “The computer was in Mr Green’s office, on his desk, logged in, his account, his name. “In between browsing pornography, he was sending emails from his account, his personal account, reading documents ... it was ridiculous to suggest anybody else could have done it.”

Dangerous things trees:

It may be the season of holiday cheer but Christmas is in fact the most dangerous time of the year, with around 1,350 reported injuries annually in relation to Christmas trees and fairy lights.
Also possibility of exploding trees!

This site's quite good, but not sure what type of person would think of checking online for Xmas safety tips. ;)

Beware of your Christmas tree. That Norwegian spruce is not as innocent as it looks.
Typical Christmas Day accidents include parents accidentally stabbing themselves with scissors, which they've used to assemble toys, instead of using a screwdriver. People often cut themselves with knives when they're opening presents too quickly. People also trip over toys and electric cables while rushing to try their new computers and other appliances.

How stupid do you have to be to do that? This is a cabinet minister.

I confess to feeling slightly uneasy about a retired copper spilling the beans to the media though.

Assuming it was reported to Cameron at the time, it's actually yet another cockup to be laid at his door.

Hehe! Not going to spend all morning on it, but I think(?) Quick has denied being the original leaker, just 'confirming' it to the STimes ..
.A statement prepared by Bob Quick, a former assistant commissioner at the Metropolitan police, claimed the material was discovered by officers during an inquiry into government leaks in which Green was embroiled in 2008.

Quick, who headed the leak investigation, confirmed to The Sunday Times yesterday that his officers had reported finding “extreme” pornographic material on a parliamentary computer from Green’s office.
Green then attacks Quick , and Lewis confirms the original story (whoever leaked it).

Murky! Now back to biz .

My daughter, when about 2 or 3, decided to have 'experiment day' which involved first eating a few berries from a bush in the garden (call to poisons line, monitor carefully, probably fine, was fine) and then washing her eyes with soap (rinse rinse "EYES EYES EYES" rinse rinse repeat &c)

As mentioned last night, a LibDem clean sweep in the four byelection contests this week - two of their wins were widely expected, the other two rather less so.

Some of the usual suspects already trying to claim this was "about Brexit", though......

"Brexit Secretary David Davis in threat to quit over Damian Green 'porn' storm"
A mutual friend of Mr Davis and Mr Green said: “David would find it quite difficult to stay in his job and not resign if Damian was pushed out because of anything related to what happened 10 years ago.”
The friend said the warning had been passed to the Prime Minister “in words of one syllable”, adding: “David has been absolutely fabulous to Damian in what are quite trying circumstances. He has put his cloak around him to that extent.”

I think this (or at least in outline) appeared yesterday, but here's today's coverage -
Sadiq Khan to take control of London Stadium after critical review

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, is to take over control of the London Stadium, it has been announced.

An independent review was published on Friday morning, which said there had been “a catalogue of errors” that led to massively increased conversion costs after the 2012 Olympics. It criticised a “bungled decision that has left the taxpayer to foot an annual loss of around £20m” over what is now West Ham United’s home ground. (Guardian)

Link's not working.

I did read a few comments at the G reader's edition today and did notice a few pro-Kendall posts. Made me wonder where she went. Andy Burnham's now Mayor of Manchester, Yvette Cooper is chair of the home affairs select committee and Owen Smith is shadow secretary of state for Northern Ireland. Liz, on the other hand, seems to have melted away almost entirely.

So what I read about the Mike Flynn hearing is that the case presented against him is so limited that it's indicative that he's entered into some kind of deal to spill the beans on Trump.
