What's the past participle of plead?

Anyway, Flynn has done it guilty apparently. And reports that he will testify that Trump directed him to make contact with Russia. Apparently.

Thank you. At least I have an excuse!

So, Flynn has pleaded guilty.

"Damian Green and the decade-long feud with ex-Met officer Bob Quick"
Davis introduced Galley, who was then working in immigration, to Green, who was the Tory immigration spokesman. Galley, later on in a police interview, said he had wanted a “parliamentary job” with the Tories. Green repeatedly promised to “try to find something” but said “he wanted as much information as possible to damage them”, Galley said.
Isn't that classed as bribery?

Four local council byelections yesterday - as already remarked on, a common trend may soon become apparent:

Gosport DC - LibDem gain from Labour with a whopping 58 per cent of the vote in a ward where they have never previously even stood since it was created in the 2002 all-out elections here - it then safely returned 2 Labour councillors in a straight fight with the Tories and indeed all the subsequent contests until now have been between those two parties save for a far right intervention in 2010. And until now all were easy wins for Labour save for their low point of 2008 when the Tories narrowly won - it was roughly 70-30 to Labour last year - so that this result came out of nowhere is, for once, not overstating it. Apart from the humungous Labour drop, the Tories were also significantly squeezed to less than 20 per cent.

Tandridge DC - LibDem hold with over half the vote (and an increase of 17 points on a year ago) in a ward which has been split between them and the Tories for a while now; Tories won both seats in the 2000 all-out elections and continued that victorious run until the LibDems finally broke through in 2008, they held this seat in 2012 and 2016 whilst the Tories held on to the other - narrowly in 2010, more comfortably in 2014. Given that it is "their" seat up next year, it might concern them that they were easily beaten by the Tories by almost exactly 2 to 1 this time and their share fell even compared to last year; as for other parties there was once a Labour presence here - they won in the 1990s and were still a good second in 2002 - but those days are some way off and they also dropped since last time, though they did leap frog over UKIP who dropped from 19 per cent a year ago to 7% and last now.

Maidstone DC - LibDem gain from Tory, meaning they become the biggest party on this hung council. This result at least was expected, though, as this ward has normally been a stronghold for the LibDems and their predecessors going back to the early 1980s - 2015's Tory win by a narrow margin on GE day is one of the handful of times it has not voted for them since then. It was that seat that was up for election this time and the result marked a big swing to the LibDems since then as they polled a little over half the vote and the Tories just over a quarter, but a rather more modest movement since last year as the Tories actually managed to increase their own share a little. This can be explained by the absence of UKIP, who came close to snatching a seat in a 2014 "double election" and still polled respectably last year - and this may also have helped Labour who advanced by 6 points to 19%. Greens unchanged from a year ago on 3%.

Torridge DC - LibDem gain from UKIP (though they actually went Independent a while back) in a 3 member ward with a very involved recent electoral history - 2Ind/1LD in 2003, 1Ind/1C/1LD in 2007, and 1C/1Ind/1LD in 2011 before the LibDem seat went Green in a previous 2013 byelection; the LibDems did not stand then nor in 2015 when things went 1Ind/1Grn/1UKIP. Given their recent absence, the LibDems winning now with a triumphant 60 per cent share has to be a bit of a surprise even given their previous history - a very distant second was taken by an Independent, their 15 per cent well short of what they are used to getting here. Tories not far behind, though this was a drop on 2015 (and well down on 2011) it still meant they moved above two successful parties last time, Greens at least beating UKIP who crashed to just 4% this time round. Labour sat this one out even though they had polled fairly respectably two years ago, but going on the result it probably wouldn't have made much difference ;)

A quiet start to December next week - just two contests - but then there is a final flourish before Christmas.

And another one -

'They don't tell you why': threatened with removal after 52 years in the UK

Anthony Bryan was nearly sent back to Jamaica despite not having been there since he was eight. His status remains precarious – and he’s not the only one

After 52 years in the UK, Anthony Bryan was shocked to be told he was in the country illegally and faced forced removal. Earlier this month he was sent to an immigration detention centre and booked by Home Office staff on a flight back to Jamaica, a country he left when he was eight and has not visited since.

The case is the latest in an emerging scandal over the Home Office’s brutal treatment of a number of long-settled, retirement-age UK residents who are being aggressively pursued over their immigration status. Bryan’s MP, Kate Osamor, said these cases were just “the tip of the iceberg” and described the situation as barbaric. (Guardian)
