Morning all.

Now that the Brexit committee has decided that Davis should simply walk away from this, maybe someone will pick it up in the HoC itself.

It really does beggar belief that no impact assessments have been done - what on earth has his department been doing for the past 18 months?

The conclusion of the Lords report, calling for an extension to the A50 period.
141.There is still a risk of a chaotic ‘no deal’ Brexit, and for the reasons we have set out in this report, we are not confident that a legally certain and binding transition deal can be reached by March 2018, the point at which the existing uncertainty is likely to inflict more serious damage on the UK economy. While the EU as a whole may appear to have less to lose, specific sectors and regions in the EU could also pay a heavy price for this uncertainty.

142.While we reiterate our support for the Government’s goal of securing a comprehensive agreement by October 2018, the uncertainty over the feasibility of that aim means that the overriding UK and EU interest is now to secure an orderly and legally certain transition, as early as possible. To this end, we call on the Government, alongside its consideration of the legal basis for transition, to review the options for securing a time-limited extension to the UK’s EU membership that are legally available under Article 50; to open discussions on these options with the EU negotiators; and to report its conclusions to Parliament at the earliest opportunity, and at all events before the end of March 2018.

Has Ireland scuppered Brexit?

Mainlymacro

"Perhaps before we formally leave the EU, enough Conservative MPs (and despite all the noise from some Remainers about Corbyn, it is Conservative MPs who matter) will put country before party and call for a second referendum. Ireland increases that possibility, but from the evidence so far I do not see it happening."

Sorry to have taken so long to get back to you -

Yesterday, you asked me a question about John Curtice.

It's not so much what he says but more the way that he says it. It's all rather subjective, I'm afraid. Although I admit he is better than most, and is undoubtedly very intelligent.

House of Lords Impact Assessments

Page 12 example --
The British Retail Consortium warned that the average tariff on food products
imported from the EU would be 22%, with tariffs on Irish cheddar of 44% and
on beef of 40%. Its research pointed to potential rises in the price of cheese
in the order of 6–32%, on tomatoes of 9–18%, and on beef of 5–29%. Non-
tariff barriers would be burdensome in relation to customs checks, and health
or veterinary checks stemming from sanitary and phytosanitary requirements.

This is our third year in a new build - the old school was two buildings on a site but the kids had to move between them regularly and the site genuinely became quite dangerous in snow and ice (because you can't trust or expect children to act responsibly in snow) - this new build is all one building and once they're here they hardly need to go outside at all - we've had about one 'snow day' every three years since I've been here but I can't see it being likely now unless it's so bad that staff can't come and go safely. (although, I have to say, that I live further away than almost anyone and rely on public transport but I have always got here on days when we've closed - in fact I have to set off too early to get the message so tended to arrive to be told we were closed).

Well indeed. I don't support the DUP's motives on this, but they are right.

Ripping up the fabric of the UK and it's relationship with Ireland is obviously, in the words of Starmer, "too high a price" for most people, even most Tory MPs!

Store staff have been briefed this week on a proposal that could mean 842 section leaders being removed from its store management teams. Thousands of other workers will also be affected by a wider move to cut the number of hours spent on stacking and tidying shelves at 600 supermarkets. (Guardian)
